The zinc within a copper-plated penny will dissolve in hydrochloric acid if the copper coating is filed down in several spots (s

o that the hydrochloric acid can get to the zinc). The reaction between the acid and the zinc is as follows: 2H+(aq)+Zn(s)→H2(g)+Zn2+(aq). When the zinc in a certain penny dissolves, the total volume of gas collected over water at 25 ∘C was 0.947 L at a total pressure of 740 mmHg. What mass of hydrogen gas is collected?

Answer: The amount of hydrogen gas collected will be 0.073 g

Explanation:

We are given:

Vapor pressure of water = 23.78 mmHg

Total vapor pressure = 740 mmHg

Vapor pressure of hydrogen gas = Total vapor pressure - Vapor pressure of water = (740 - 23.78) mmHg = 716.22 mmHg

To calculate the amount of hydrogen gas collected, we use the equation given by ideal gas which follows:

PV=nRT

where,

P = pressure of the gas = 716.22 mmHg

V = Volume of the gas = 0.947 L

T = Temperature of the gas = 25^oC=[25+273]K=298K

R = Gas constant = 62.364\text{ L.mmHg }mol^{-1}K^{-1}

n = number of moles of hydrogen gas = ?

Putting values in above equation, we get:

716.22mmHg\times 0.947L=n\times 62.364\text{ L.mmHg }mol^{-1}K^{-1}\times 298K\\\\n=\frac{716.22\times 0.947}{62.364\times 298}=0.0365mol

To calculate the mass from given number of moles, we use the equation:

\text{Number of moles}=\frac{\text{Given mass}}{\text{Molar mass}}

Moles of hydrogen gas = 0.0365 moles

Molar mass of hydrogen gas = 2 g/mol

Putting values in above equation, we get:

0.0365mol=\frac{\text{Mass of hydrogen gas}}{2g/mol}\\\\\text{Mass of hydrogen gas}=(0.0365mol\times 2g/mol)=0.073g

Hence, the amount of hydrogen gas collected will be 0.073 g

What rules should you follow when adding and subtracting? Check all that apply. 1. The exponents in scientific notation should b
Damm [24]
The answer to this question would be:
2. The exponents need to be the same so the leading numbers can be added or subtracted.
3. The result has the same number of decimal places as the least precise number.

The exponent is the 10^x that used in scientific notation. .When adding 12.3* 10^5 with 34.56 * 10^4, you need to make the exponent same first. In this case, it would become 12.3* 10^5 + 3.456 * 10^5= 15.756* 10^5
The decimal place could be rounded up to the least precise number. I'm not sure with the significant figures but it seems to use the biggest one.

What process takes place before an article is published in a scientific journal/
Goshia [24]
Before an article is published in a scientific journal or in any "peer-reviewed" journal the article is reviewed thoroughly by scholars from the journal as well as peers or scholars of the articles author from the same field. This process occurs to provide credibility to the ideas being published and so that readers and other scholars can rely on the validity of the material being published.

Which of these gives a correct trend in ionization energy
natita [175]

Answer:

C. I, III , IV

Explanation:

As we move from left to right across the periodic table the number of valance electrons in an atom increase. The atomic size tend to decrease in same period of periodic table because the electrons are added with in the same shell. When the electron are added, at the same time protons are also added in the nucleus. The positive charge is going to increase and this charge is greater in effect than the charge of electrons. This effect lead to the greater nuclear attraction. The electrons are pull towards the nucleus and valance shell get closer to the nucleus. As a result of this greater nuclear attraction atomic radius decreases and ionization energy increases because it is very difficult to remove the electron from atom and more energy is required.

As we move down the group atomic radii increased with increase of atomic number. The addition of electron in next level cause the atomic radii to increased. The hold of nucleus on valance shell become weaker because of shielding of electrons thus size of atom increased.

As the size of atom increases the ionization energy from top to bottom also decreases because it becomes easier to remove the electron because of less nuclear attraction and as more electrons are added the outer electrons becomes more shielded and away from nucleus.

Which of the following best describe the chronological way of specimen preparation?
nata0808 [166]

Answer:

There are many reasons to examine human cells and tissues under the microscope. Medical and biological research is underpinned by knowledge of the normal structure and function of cells and tissues and the organs and structures that they make up. In the normal healthy state, the cells and other tissue elements are arranged in regular, recognizable patterns. Changes induced by a wide range of chemical and physical influences are reflected by alterations in the structure at a microscopic level, and many diseases are characterized by typical structural and chemical abnormalities that differ from the normal state. Identifying these changes and linking them to particular diseases is the basis of histopathology and cytopathology, important specializations of modern medicine. Microscopy plays an important part in haematology (the study of blood), microbiology (the study of microorganisms including parasites and viruses), and more broadly in the areas of biology, zoology, and botany. In all these disciplines, specimens are examined under a microscope.

4) 4 NH3 + 3 O2  2 N2 + 6 H2O
Black_prince [1.1K]
4 NH₃ + 3O₂ --> 2N₂ + 6H₂O

First, make sure that this is a balanced equation.
There are 4 moles of nitrogen on the left side, and 4 moles of nitrogen on the right side.
There are 12 moles of hydrogen on the left side, and 12 moles of hydrogen on the right side.
There are 6 moles of oxygen on the left side, and 6 moles of oxygen on the right side.

The equation is therefore balanced, and we may proceed.

a) the mole ratio for NH₃ to N₂ is 4 to 2, which can be simplified to 2:1 or 2/1.

b) the mole ratio for H₂O to O₂ is 6 to 3, which can be simplified to 2:1 or 2/1.
