Answer:

Empirical formula = S₁Cl₂ = SCl₂

Explanation:

The empirical formula of a compound is the simplest whole number ratio of each type of atom in a compound.

This compound contains 31.1% sulfur and 68.9% chlorine.

That is 100g of the compound contains 31.1 g of sulfur and 68.9 g of chlorine.

Convert the mass of each element to moles using the molar mass from the periodic table.

Moles of Sulfur = \frac{31.1}{32.065 } \\

= 0.9699

Moles of Chlorine= \frac{68.9}{35.453 } \\

= 1.9434

Divide each mole value by the smallest number of moles calculated.

Units of sulfur =  \frac{0.9699}{0.9699} \\

= 1

Units of Chlorine =  \frac{1.9434}{0.9699} \\

= 2

Empirical formula = S₁Cl₂ = SCl₂

A truck is moving at the rate of 40 km/hr. How far does it move when it stops after 5 seconds?
seraphim [82]
First of all, this is the chemistry section, while your question is a physics question. Anyway I'll tell you how to solve it.

First we need to find the rate that the truck moves in a second.

1km = 1000m
40km = 40000m
40000m/hr
1 hour = 60 minutes
40000m/hr ÷ 60 = 666.66(repeating)/minute
1 minute = 60 seconds
666.66m/min ÷ 60 = 11.11(rep)m/s

Next we simply multiply the speed of the truck by the number of seconds it travels.

11.11 × 5 = 55.55
Make sure to round it unless you indicate the repeating decimal.
The truck moved 55.56m in 5 seconds.

The bulk of nuclear waste is in the form of ______
Alina [70]

Answer:

The bulk of nuclear waste is in the form of <u>solid ceramic pellets</u>.

Explanation:

Nuclear fuel loaded into commercial reactors is generally in the form of solid ceramic pellets that are stacked into metal tubes and bundled together in fuel assemblies. After the atoms in the pellet split to release their energy, the pellets in tubes emerge as nuclear waste.

What is the bond order for a single covalent bond?
hram777 [196]

Answer:

We typically represent covalent bonds with a dash ( - ) between the atoms. This indicates a single bond. Ex: Cl - Cl

Single bond, double bond, triple bond.

Explanation:

We call it a single covalent bond because the atoms are sharing a single pair of electrons.
