An irrational number has repeating values or just random numbers after the decimal point.
Here's an example...
Tell, does this number look rational?
<em>4.2359712309458730495870192354870394587234098657293085412364781236409584790853467923456790324785098234570923845702398547 (and it goes on forever...and ever...and ever......) </em> <em />I'm quite sure that whatever that number is, it is not a rational one!
But, does this number look rational?
<em>150.594. </em> <em />Well, it terminates. That's the important part there, this number <em>terminates. </em>If the decimals never <em><u /></em>terminate, the number is irrational. =)
