Substitute y in 8x - 3y = -22.

8x - 3(5x + 19) = -22
Simplify.
8x - 15x - 57 = -22
Simplify.
-7x - 57 = -22
Add 57 to both sides.
-7x = 35
Divide both sides by -7.
x = -5

Substitute x in y = 5x + 19.

y = 5(-5) + 19
y = -25 + 19
y = -6

The solution is (-5, -6).

8/9 divided by -1 4/15
Marina86 [1]

You can use the keep it, change it, and flip it method. Keep the 8/9. Change the division to multiplication. Flip -14/15 (it becomes -15/14). So, your answer would become 20/21.
