Coefficients - the number part of a term (3x the 3 is the coefficient)

terms - numbers separated by a + or - sign (2x + 3 is 2 terms)
            (But 1/x or sqrt(x) are not terms because their exponets are not positive or a whole number)

factors - expressions that will multiply together to get the original term.

Answer:

Coefficients = the number part of a term {10x the 10 is the coefficient}

Terms = either a single number or variable, or the product of several numbers or variables. {4x-2=65 so 4x, 2 & 65 are the terms}

 -Also 1/x or sq are not terms because their exponents are not positive or a whole number

Factors = expressions that will multiply together to get the original term

The number p and 2/3 are additive inverses.
vlada-n [284]

By knowing that p and 2/3 are additive inverses, we will see that p = -2/3

So two numbers A and B are additive inverses if:

A + B = 0

Here the two numbers are p and 2/3, so we have:

2/3 + p = 0

Solving this for p gives:

p = -2/3

Then the value of p is just -2/3.

Now, I can't "drag and drop" the labels in the given image, so I will post a little graph of where each point should be:

Andy has 31 coins made up of quarters and half dollars, and their total value is $11.00. How many quarters does he have?
charle [14.2K]

Answer:

4

Step-by-step explanation:

This situation has two unknowns - the total number of half dollars and the total number of quarters. Because we have two unknowns, we will write a system of equations with two equations using the two unknowns.

  • h+q=31 is an equation representing the total number of coins
  • 0.50h+0.25q=11 is an equation representing the total value in money based on the number of coin. 0.50 and 0.25 come from the value of a half dollar and quarter individually.

We write the first equation in terms of q by subtracting it across the equal sign to get h=31-q. We now substitute this for h in the second equation.

0.50(31-q)+0.25q=11

15.5-0.50q+0.25q=11

15.5-0.25q=11

After simplifying, we subtract 15.5 across and divide by the coefficient of q.

-0.25q=-4.5

q=4

We now know of the 31 coins that 4 are quarters.
