What is the formula of the ionic compound formed between chlorine (Cl) and aluminum (Al)? AlCl, because aluminum loses three ele

ctrons and chlorine gains three electrons. AlCl3, because aluminum loses three electrons and chlorine gains one electron. ClAl, because chlorine gains one electron and aluminum loses one electron. ClAl3, because chlorine gains three electrons and aluminum loses one electron.
2- Which of the following is a correct formula unit of an ionic compound?

Al2O3
Ca2O
MgOH
NaCl2
3-A student made the Lewis dot diagram of a compound as shown.

What is the error in the Lewis dot diagram?

The Ca atom should transfer only one electron to Cl because the formula is CaCl.
The number of dots around Ca should be one because Ca has to transfer only one electron to Cl.
The Ca atom should transfer only one electron to Cl, and the second electron should be transferred to another Cl atom.
The Cl atom should transfer two electrons to Ca because it has more electrons than Ca, so the formula becomes CaCl2.

1) Answer is: AlCl3, because aluminum loses three electrons and chlorine gains one electron.

Aluminium chloride is a salt with ionic bonds.

Aluminium (metal from group 13) lost three electrons and form cation with postive charge 3+.

Chlorine (nonmetal from group 17) gain one electronand form anion with negatove charge.

Chemical compound has neutral charge (+3 + 3 · (-1) = 0).

2) Answer is: Al2O3.

Substance made from aluminium and oxygen is aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃).

One formula unit of aluminium oxide has two aluminium atoms and three oxygen atoms.

Aluminium has oxidation number +3 and oxygen has oxidation number -2.

Correct formula for calcium oxide is CaO.

Correct formula for magbesium hydroxide is Mg(OH)₂.

Correct formula for sodium chloride is NaCl.

3) Answer is: The Ca atom should transfer only one electron to Cl, and the second electron should be transferred to another Cl atom.

Calcium cation (Ca²⁺) and chlorine anions (Cl⁻) will form ionic compound (salt) calcium chloride (CaCl₂).

Calcium cations and chlorine anions have a crystal structure in this solid inorganic salt. Ions have the ordered arrangement.

Electron configuration of calcium atom: ₂₀Ca 1s² 2s² 2p⁶ 3s² 3p⁶ 4s².

Atomic number of calcium is 20, it means that it has 20 protons and 20 electrons, so atom of calcium is neutral.

When calcium lost two electrons, it will have 20 protons (positive charge) and 18 electrons (negative charge), which means it has two protons more and it has +2 oxidation number.

A gas has a volume of 1.8Lat−26◦Cand 147 kPa. At what temperature would the gas occupy 1.33 L at 217 kPa?
miss Akunina [59]

Answer: At temperature of 269 K the gas would occupy 1.33 L at 217 kPa

Explanation:

Combined gas law is the combination of Boyle's law, Charles's law and Gay-Lussac's law.

The combined gas equation is,

\frac{P_1V_1}{T_1}=\frac{P_2V_2}{T_2}

where,

P_1 = initial pressure of gas = 147 kPa

P_2 = final pressure of gas = 217 kPa

V_1 = initial volume of gas = 1.8 L

V_2 = final volume of gas = 1.33 L

T_1 = initial temperature of gas = -26^oC=273-26=247K

T_2 = final temperature of gas = ?

Now put all the given values in the above equation, we get:

\frac{147kPa\times 1.8L}{247K}=\frac{217kPa\times 1.33L}{T_1}

T_2=269K

Thus at 269 K temperature the gas would occupy 1.33 L at 217 kPa

what electronic transition in a hydrogen atom starting from n=7 energy level will produce infrared radiation with energy of 55.1
Lostsunrise [7]

Answer:

(<em>n</em> = 7) ⟶ (<em>n</em> = 4)

Explanation:

1. Convert the energy to <em>joules per mole of electrons</em>.

<em>E</em> = 55.1 × 1000 = 55 100 J/mol

2. Convert the energy to <em>joules per electron </em>

<em>E</em> = 55 100/(6.022 × 10²³)

<em>E</em> = 9.150 × 10⁻²⁰ J/electron

3. Use the Rydberg equation to <em>calculate the transition </em>

Rydberg's original formula was in terms of wavelengths, but we can rewrite it to have the units of energy. The formula then becomes

\Delta E = R_{\text{H}} (\frac{ 1}{ n_{f}^{2}} - \frac{ 1}{ n_{i}^{2}})

where

R_{\text{H}} = the Rydberg constant = 2.178 × 10⁻¹⁸ J

n_{i} and n_{f} are the initial and final energy levels.

9.150 \times 10^{-20} = 2.178 \times 10^{-18}(\frac{ 1}{ n_{f}^{2}} - \frac{ 1}{ 7^{2}})

\frac{9.150 \times 10^{-20} }{2.178 \times 10^{-18}} = \frac{ 1}{ n_{f}^{2}} - \frac{ 1}{ 49}

\frac{ 1}{ n_{f}^{2}} = \text{0.042 01} + \frac{1 }{49 }

\frac{ 1}{ n_{f}^{2}} = \text{0.042 01 + 0.020 41}

\frac{ 1}{ n_{f}^{2}} = \text{0.042 01 + 0.020 41}

\frac{ 1}{ n_{f}^{2}} = \text{0.062 42}

n_{f}^{2} = \frac{1 }{ \text{0.062 42}}

n_{f}^{2} = 16.02

n_{f} = \sqrt{16.02}

n_{f} = 4.003 \approx 4
