A. What angle of rotation maps P onto P'?

Answer: By 40 degrees. Why? Since the angle from P' to P is 2h. and 40min, We can count that as a "slice of pie". Now, since it was all the way to 24 hours, we just have to add that all up.

2h. 40 min. = 160 mins.

24 hrs. = 1440 mins.

1440 mins. = pizza
160 mins. = slice

1440 ÷ 160 = 9

That means, there are 9 slices. Now...

Entire pizza = 360°

360° ÷ 9 = 40°

Voila. 40°.

B.What are the x- and y- coordinates of P' to the nearest thousandth?

Answer: The x- coordinate is 0.833, and the y- coordinate is 0.666. Why? WELL. That's a bit tricky.

Every square side in the coordinate plan is approximately 0.333 unit. Y is two units, and X is 2 and a half units.

0.333 x 2 = 0.666

0.333 x 2.5 = 0.833

C. What translation rule maps P onto P'?

Answer: Rotation around a point. If we saw earlier, it's in a 360° circle. If the North Star is the vertex, then we know the translation rule is a rotation around the point, specifically, the North Star. That way, P will go onto P'.

I hope this helped. :)

If x= 19 feet and y = 12 feet, what is the area and perimeter of the figure above?
Delicious77 [7]

All we need to do to solve this problem is calculate the area of a rectangle and the area of a circle, then add them!

____________________________

First, let's do the rectangle!

Area of a rectangle = length x width

or in this case... Area = "x" times "y"

Area = 19 × 12 = 228 square feet!

________________________________

Now, let's do the circle!

Area of a circle = πr² ...      (r = radius)

* In this diagram, the diameter of the circle is also the same length as "y"!

* And remember that radius is half of the diameter.

radius = 6

Now, let's actually calculate the area

Area = π(6)² ⇒ 36π

Area = 113.1 (I rounded up the decimals!)

_______________________________________

*But wait! Look at the figure! It looks like HALF of the circle's area was included when we calculated the area of the rectangle! This means that we should divide the area of the circle (that we just calculated) in half!

Area of the HALF CIRCLE = 113.1 ÷ 2 = 56.5

Now let's add the area of the rectangle to the area of the half-circle to find the area of THE ENTIRE FIGURE!

228 + 56.5 = 284.5

284.5 square feet is our answer!
