Look at the given graph. Start at x=0. Mark x=1/8. The first cut piece will have length 1/8, which stretches from x=0 to x=1/8. Mark x=1/4. The second cut piece will have length 1/8, which extends from x=1/8 to x=1/4. And so on. When you finally have a cut piece the ends at x=3/4, count the number of cut pieces that you have drawn between x=0 and x=3/4.
1.) 3x -4 <_ 2
Add 4 to both sides.
-4 + 4 = 0
2 + 4 = 6
3x <_ 6
Divide both sides by 3.
3x / 3 = x
6 / 3 = 2
x <_ 2 is your answer for the first inequality.
2.) 2x + 11 _> -1
Subtract 11 from both sides.
11 - 11 = 0
-1 -1 = -2
2x _> -12
Divide both sides by 2.
2x / 2 = x
-12 / 2 = -6

100 is above because the number 100 is higher than 0 so it’s above freezing point.
5.5 is above because it is a larger number than the freezing point so the water would not freeze yet at this temperature.
-2.25 is below because it’s a negative number.
