The answer would be positive since the subtraction sign and the negative cancel each other out and makes the negative a positive which means at the end they will both be positive and when you add numbers with the same sign the answer will have that sign

It would be positive. The minus sign makes the negative a positive and adds the two. Just remember keep, change, change.

Evgen [1.6K]

Answer:

2\frac{7}{10}

Step-by-step explanation:

First, find the LCM and multiply through:

12(\frac{2x-1}{4} ) +12(\frac{x}{3})=12(2)

The LCM will cancel out the denominators (note that braket symbolizes Multiplication):

:3(2x-1) +4(x)=24

:6x-3+4x=24

Group like terms:

6x+4x=24+3

10x=27

Divide through by 10 to eliminate the coefficient of x

\frac{10x}{10}=\frac{27}{10}

: x=\frac{27}{10}=2\frac{7}{10}

What is the justification for the step taken from line 2 to line 3?
stiv31 [10]

Step-by-step explanation:

3x+9-7x=x+10+x\\-4x+9=2x+10\\-6x+9=10\\

  • In the line 2, only variables were operated with a reduction of similar terms in each side of the equation, giving as result -4x at one side, and 2x at the other side.
  • In the line 3, terms with variables were joined together in one side of the equation, and then, they were operate it, given as result -6X.

The drama club is having a car wash as a fundraiser. They wash x cars at $5 each
Galina-37 [17]

<u>Answer:</u>

x + y ≥ 26 + 15

5x + 8y ≥ 250 (see below)

Step-by-step explanation:

First, write an equation to represent the total cost to wash cars:

$5x = cost for cars

Then, write another for trucks:

$8y = cost for trucks

If the question is saying that they will wash at least 26 cars and 15 trucks, that means they could wash more. This means that we'll need an inequality:

This inequality represents that the total number of cars and trucks they wash will be at least—which means that it is equal to or greater than—than the amount given:

x + y ≥ 26 + 15

Any equation or inequality with two unknowns is not solvable, meaning we need a system of equations:

If they make at least $250, that means that we need to combine the costs of the cars and trucks to make an inequality:

5x + 8y ≥ 250

Now you have your system of equations:

x + y ≥ 26 + 15

5x + 8y ≥ 250
