Answer with Step-by-step explanation:

2x-y=4  ⇒y=2x-4

x²+y²=13

⇒ x²+(2x-4)²=13

⇒ x²+4x²+16-16x=13

⇒ 5x²-16x+3=0

⇒ 5x²-15x-x+3=0

5x(x-3)-1(x-3)=0

⇒ (5x-1)(x-3)=0

either 5x-1=0 or x-3=0

x=1/5 or x=3

when x=1/5=0.2, y=2/5-4 i.e. y=-3.6

when x=3, y=2

Hence, solution of x²+y²=13 and 2x-y=4 is:

x=0.2,y= -3.6  and x=3,y=2

Solve for x in the equation 2x^2-4x-9=29
Andrews [41]

Answer:

x = 1  ±2sqrt(5)

Step-by-step explanation:

2x^2-4x-9=29

Add 9 to each each side

2x^2-4x-9+9=29+9

2x^2-4x=38

Divide by 2

2/2x^2-4/2x=38/8

x^2 -2x =19

Complete the square

x^2 -2x + (-2/2)^2 = 19 +(-2/2)^2

x^2 -2x +1 = 19+1

(x-1)^1=2 = 20

Take the square root of each side

sqrt((x-1)^2) = ±sqrt(20)

x-1 =  ±sqrt(20)

Add 1 to each side

x-1+1 = 1  ±sqrt(20)

x = 1 ±sqrt(20)

Simplifying the square root of 20

x = 1  ±sqrt(4)sqrt(5)

x = 1  ±2sqrt(5)

which describes 1/8 is it a real number and rational number is it a real number and an irrational number and a natural number is
Aloiza [94]
Real numbers are all numbers found on the number line (positive, negative, fractions, square roots, whole numbers).

Rational numbers are fractions, or quotients, of two integers.

Irrational numbers are numbers with decimals that continue on (without repetition). They cannot be written as a fraction of two integers. Irrational number examples: √41, √97, √15

Natural numbers are whole, positive numbers.

Integers are whole, non-fraction numbers.

ANSWER: 1/8 is not a whole number, an integer or a natural number. It is a real and rational number (choice #1).

Hope this helps! :)

Using algebra, find the point at which the line k(x) = 5x - 1 intersects with the line h(x) = -3x - 1 ?
vichka [17]

The point at which the lines k(x) = 5x - 1 and h(x) = -3x - 1 meet is (0, -1)

Given: k(x) = 5x - 1, h(x) = -3x - 1

We need to find the point(if any) at which these two lines k and h meets.

To find point of intersection(if any), we need to set the functions equal as at the point of intersection the (x, y) value will be same for both of the lines.

Therefore, k(x) = h(x)

=> 5x - 1 = -3x - 1

=> 8x = 0

=> x = 0

k(x=0) = 5 * 0  - 1 = -1

Hence the point at which the lines k(x) = 5x - 1 and h(x) = -3x - 1 meet is (0, -1)

You need to buy 8 packages of meat for a cookout. A package of hot dogs costs $2.19 and a package of hamburgers costs $5.89. You
Daniel [21]

Answer:

1.89x + 5.19y = 31.62.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the pagke of hot dags be x

Let the pakage of hamburgers be y

Now they total up tp 8 packages.

xEliminate the cost

x+y=8

y=8-x

Cost of hotdogs = $1.89

Cost of hamburgers = $5.19

1.89x+5.19y=31.62

1.89x+5.19(8-x)=31.62

1.89x+41.52-5.19=31.62

-3.3x=--9.9

x=3

y=8-3

y=5
