Find the slope of the line that passes through the pair of points. F(–6, 8), P(–6, –5)

Mathematics
1 answer:
Anika [276]3 years ago
3 0

Answer:

slope is undefined

Step-by-step explanation:

Calculate the slope m using the slope formula

m = ( y₂ - y₁ ) / ( x₂ - x₁ )

with (x₁, y₁ ) = (- 6, 8) and (x₂, y₂ ) = (- 6, - 5)

m = \frac{-5-8}{-6+6} = \frac{-13}{0}

division by zero is undefined, hence slope is undefined

Answer:

a) n=(\frac{1.960(16)}{5})^2 =39.33 \approx 40

b) For this case if we see the formula for the margin of error

ME=z_{\alpha/2}\frac{s}{\sqrt{n}}    (a)

We can see that the margin of error is inversely proportional to the sample size so if we want a samller margin of error we need a LARGER sample

Answer: LARGER

Step-by-step explanation:

Previous concepts

A confidence interval is "a range of values that’s likely to include a population value with a certain degree of confidence. It is often expressed a % whereby a population means lies between an upper and lower interval".

The margin of error is the range of values below and above the sample statistic in a confidence interval.

Normal distribution, is a "probability distribution that is symmetric about the mean, showing that data near the mean are more frequent in occurrence than data far from the mean".

\bar X represent the sample mean for the sample

\mu population mean

\sigma=16 represent the population standard deviation

n represent the sample size

Solution to the problem

Part a

The margin of error is given by this formula:

ME=z_{\alpha/2}\frac{s}{\sqrt{n}}    (a)

And on this case we have that ME =5 and we are interested in order to find the value of n, if we solve n from equation (a) we got:

n=(\frac{z_{\alpha/2} \sigma}{ME})^2   (b)

The critical value for 95% of confidence interval now can be founded using the normal distribution. And in excel we can use this formla to find it:"=-NORM.INV(0.025;0;1)", and we got z_{\alpha/2}=1.960, replacing into formula (b) we got:

n=(\frac{1.960(16)}{5})^2 =39.33 \approx 40

So the answer for this case would be n=40 rounded up to the nearest integer

Part b

For this case if we see the formula for the margin of error

ME=z_{\alpha/2}\frac{s}{\sqrt{n}}    (a)

We can see that the margin of error is inversely proportional to the sample size so if we want a samller margin of error we need a LARGER sample

5x-3y < 30

A)  5(-3) -3(5) < 30

   -15 -15 < 30

    -30 < 30   This is true

B)  5(0) -3(0) < 30

     0 - 0 < 30

     0< 30     This is true

C)  5(-5) - 3(3) < 30

    -25 - 9  < 30

      -34 < 30    This is also true

D) 5(3) - 3(-5) < 30

   15 + 15 < 30

  30 < 30         This is not true because 30 is not greater that 30

An automobile manufacturer has given its van a 47.2 miles/gallon (MPG) rating. An independent testing firm has been contracted t
7nadin3 [17]

Answer:

A

The  test statistics is  t  = -1.7

B

The  Null and  Alternative hypothesis are

      H_o  :  \mu = 47.2   and  H_a :  \mu \ne  47.2

Step-by-step explanation:

From the question we are told that

    The population mean is  \mu  =  47.2 miles/gallon(MPG)

    The sample size is  n =  250 \ van

     The  sample mean is  \= x  =  47.0

      The sample  standard deviation is  \sigma = 1.9

      The level of significance is  \alpha = 0.02

Given that the value which the manufacturer gave the automobile is  47.2 and  it is believed that this is not correct, then

The  Null Hypothesis is

        H_o  :  \mu = 47.2

The alternative Hypothesis  is

        H_a :  \mu \ne  47.2

The test statistics can be mathematically evaluated as

        t  =  \frac{\= x- \mu}{\frac{\sigma }{\sqrt{n} } }

substituting values

        t  =  \frac{\= 47- 47.2}{\frac{1.9 }{\sqrt{250} } }

       t  = -1.7
