How many moles of water are made from complete reaction of 1.4 moles of hydrogen gas? Given the reaction: 2H2 + O2 → 2H2O
Ber [7]

Answer:

1.4moles

Explanation:

From the balanced equation below;

2H2 + O2 → 2H2O

2moles of hydrogen reacts with 1mole of oxygen to produce 2moles of water.

since we are only interested in comparing hydrogen and water, we can say 2moles of hydrogen will produce 2moles of water

Hence by comparism of moles;

1.4moles of hydrogen will produce 1.4moles of water

When ethylbenzene is treated with NBS and irradiated with UV light, two stereoisomeric compounds are obtained in equal amounts.
Stells [14]

Answer: 1-Phenyl ethyl radical is formed as an intermediate in the reaction and since Phenyl ethyl radical has  a trigonal planar geometry so it is a planar molecule having two faces.  So Br radical radical can recombine  with the  two faces with equal probability  leading to a racemic mixture in 50:50ratio of products.Hence two products are formed which are known as enatiomers.

Explanation:

When we irradiate the ethylbenzene with UV light , it leads to homolytic cleavage and 1- Phenyl ethyl free radical is generated.

Phenyl ethyl free radical is generated because it is very stable as it is on a  secondary carbon center as well as on a benzylic position so it can be stabilized by the resonance as well as inductive effect at the secondary carbon center.

NBS(N-bromosuccinimide) is a source of bromine radical and provides bromine free radical.

Once the  1- Phenyl ethyl free radical is generated then bromine free radical can recombine with benzyl free radical leading to product formation.

Since  1- Phenyl ethyl free radical  has a trigonal planar geometry so it is a planar molecule which has two faces  and hence the radical recombination with bromine free radical can occur with either of the two faces available.

Kindly refer the attachments for structure as well as the mechanism of the reaction.

So two isomers which are enantiomers are produced  are obtained.

A 60g sample of tetraethyl lead, a gasoline additive, is found to contain 38.43g lead, 17.83g carbon and 3.74g hydrogen. Determi
anastassius [24]

Answer:

Empirical formula (which matches the molecular formula) is = PbC₈H₂₀

Explanation:

Our sample: 60 g of tetraethyl lead

In order to determine the compound empirical formula we need the centesimal composition:

(Mass of element / Total mass) . 100 =

(38.43 g lead / 60g ) . 100 = 64.05%

(17.83 g C / 60g) . 100 = 29.72%

(3.74 g H / 60g) . 100 = 6.23 %

These % are the mass of the elements in 100 g of compound. Let's find out the moles of them:

64.05 g / 207.2 g/mol = 0.309 moles

29.72 g / 12 g/mol = 2.48 moles

6.23 g/ 1 g/mol = 6.23 moles

Next, we divide the moles, by the lowest value of them (0.309)

0.309 / 0.309 = 1 mol Pb

2.48 / 0.309 = 8 mol C

6.23 / 0.309 = 20 mol H

There, we have our formula PbC₈H₂₀

You must make 1 L of 0.2 M acetic acid (CH3COOH). All you have available is concentrated glacial acetic acid (assay value, 98%;
Sergeu [11.5K]

Answer:

The correct answer is "11.44 ml".

Explanation:

Molarity,

= 0.2 M

Density,

= 1.05 g/ml

Volume,

= 1 L

As we know,

⇒  Molarity=\frac{No. \ of \ moles }{Volume \ of \ solution}

or,

⇒  No. \ of \ moles=Molarity\times Volume

On putting the values, we get

⇒                         =0.2\times 1

⇒                         =0.2 \ moles

Now,

⇒  No. \ of \ moles=\frac{Mass \ taken}{Molecular \ mass}

or,

⇒  Mass \ taken=No. \ of \ moles\times Molecular \ mass

⇒                      =0.2\times 60.05

⇒                      =12.01 \ gram

hence,

⇒  Density= \frac{Mass }{Volume}

or,

⇒  Volume=\frac{Mass}{Density}

⇒                =\frac{12.01}{1.05}

⇒                =11.44 \ ml
