Which trends appear as the elements in Period 3 are considered from left to right?
andreev551 [17]

Answer:

Metallic character decreases, and electronegativity increases.

Explanation:

Hello!

In this case, according to the organization of the periodic table, we can see that from left to right, the electronegativity increases as nonmetals are able to attract electrons more easily than metals.

Moreover, in contrast to the previous periodic trend, the metallic character decreases from left to right because the elements tend to decrease the capacity to lose electrons and consequently start attracting them.

Thus, the answer would be: "Metallic character decreases, and electronegativity increases".

Best regards!

The formation of condensation on a glass of ice water causes the ice to melt faster than it would otherwise. If 8.00 g of conden
algol13

Explanation:

It is known that heat (Q) required to change the phase of a given sample of mass m will be as follows.

               Q_{f} = mL_{f}    ........ (1)

where,    L_{f} = latent heat of fusion

Similarly,   Q_{v} = mL_{v}[/tex]  ....... (2)

where,     L_{v} = latent heat of vaporization

As it is known that value of latent heat of fusion of water is 334 J/g and latent heat of vaporization of water is 2260 J/g.

Hence, equating both the equations as follows.

          m_{condensation} \times L_{v} = m_{fusion} \times L_{f}

          m_{fusion} = \frac{m_{condensation} \times L_{v}}{L_{f}}

                         = \frac{8 g \times 2260 J/g}{334 J/g}

                         = 54.13 g

Hence, we can conclude that 54.13 grams of ice will melt.

Which of the following elements is not likely to form bonds?
Feliz [49]
C. Neon is the element which is not likely to form bonds. This is because neon is a noble gas, which means that it already has the maximum of 8 valence electrons, and doesn't need more, whereas gold, oxygen, and mercury can bond more electrons.

How many single covalent bonds could an element with the electron
Tcecarenko [31]

Answer:

1

Explanation:

I would say 1 because that configuration has 7 valence electrons.  The goal of the atom is to gain a full octet so it just needs to gain 1 more electron to get the full octet.  To get the one electron to fill the valence shell it would only need to have 1 covalent bond.

I hope this helps.  Let me know if anything is unclear.

The depictions of ionic compounds do not show distinct compound units but rather a collection of ions in the ratio given by the
Sedaia [141]

Answer:

The ionic compound NaCl has a Face Centered Cubic unit cell

The site for atoms are Face, center and Edges corner.

Effective number of atoms

Na+

1centers + 12edges x\frac{1}{4} = 4 Na+

Cl-

6face x\frac{1}{2}  + \frac{1}{8} x8 corners = 4Cl-

This is just one unit cell effective atom, there are thousand's of such unit cells are combined to form one such structure of NaCl. The real formula of NaCl is Na4Cl4 but for simplicity we use empirical formula that is NaCl.
