Answer:

Damping ratio  \zeta =0.0342

Explanation:

Given that

m=4.2 kg,K=85.9 N/m,C=1.3 N.s/m

We need to find damping ratio

We know that critical damping co-efficient

C_c=2\sqrt {mk}

C_c=2\sqrt {4.2\times 85.9}

C_c=37.98 N.s/m

Damping ratio(\zeta) is the ratio of damping co-efficient to the critical damping co-efficient

So \zeta =\dfrac{C}{C_c}

\zeta =\dfrac{1.3}{37.98}

\zeta =0.0342

So damping ratio  \zeta =0.0342

Consider the freeway in Problem 1. At one point along this freeway there is a 4% upgrade with a directional hourly traffic volum
ryzh [129]

Answer:

The Question is incomplete, the complete question is as follows:

Consider the freeway in Problem 1. At one point along this freeway there is a 4% upgrade with a directional hourly traffic volume of 5,435 vehicles. If all other conditions are as described in Problem 1, how long can this grade be without the freeway LOS dropping to F?

A six-lane rural freeway (three lanes in each direction) has regular weekday users and currently operates at maximum LOS C conditions. The base free-flow speed is 65 mi/h, lanes are 11 ft wide, the right-side shoulder is 4 ft wide, and the interchange density is 0.25 per mile. The highway is one rolling terrain with 10% large trucks and buses (no recreational vehicles), and the peak-hour factor is 0.90. Determine the hourly volume for these conditions

Explanation:

Make the assumption Base continuous flow velocity (BFFS)= 65 mph.

Pitch width= 11 ft.

Decrease in lane width pace,fLW= 1.9 mph.

Complete Lateral clearance= 4 ft. Lateral clearance speed reduction, fLC= 0.8 mph.

Complete Width of the Ramp= 0.25 mile.

Velocity reduction proportional to the ramp height, f ID= 0 mph.

Assume lane number to be = 3.

Reduction in speed corresponding to no. of lanes, fN = 3 mph

Free Flow Speed (FFS) = BFFS – fLW – fLC – fN – fID = 65 – 1.9 – 0.8 – 3 – 0 = 59.3 mph

Peak Flow, V veh/hr

Peak-hour factor = 0.90

Trucks = 10%

Rolling Terrain

fHV = 1/ (1 + 0.10 (2.5-1)) = 1/1.15 = 0.8696

fP = 1.0

Peak Flow Rate, Vp = V / (PHV*n*fHV*fP) = V/ (0.90*3*0.8696*1.0) = 0.426V veh/hr/ln

Average speed of vehicles, S = FFS = 59.3 mph

Level of service C

Density of LOS C lies between 18 - 25 veh/mi/ln

Maximum density = 25 veh/mi/ln

Density = Vp /S = 25

0.426V = 25 * 59.3

V = 3480 veh/hr

b) V = 5435 veh/hr

LOS dropping to F

Max density = 45 veh/mi/ln

Density = Vp/S = 45

Vp = 45 * 59.3 = 2668.5 veh/hr/ln

V/(PHF * n * fHV * fP) = 2668.5

fHV = 5435/(0.9*3*2668.5*1.0) = 0.754

1/(1+0.10 (ET -1)) = 0.754

ET = 4.26 ~ 3.5

For 4% upgrade and 10% trucks with ET = 3.5, length of the grade is Greater than 1.0 miles

A 35kg block of mass is subjected to forces F1=100N and F2=75N at agive angle thetha= 20° and 35° respectively.find the distance
Talja [164]

Answer:

21 m

Explanation:

Since F₁ = 100 N and acts at an angle of 20° to the horizontal, it has horizontal component F₁' = 100cos20° = 93.97 N and vertical component F₁" = 100sin20° = 34.2 N.

Also, F₂ = 75 N and acts at an angle of -35° to the horizontal, it has horizontal component F₂' = 75cos(-35°) = 75cos35° = 61.44 N and vertical component F₂" = 75sin(-35°) = -75sin35° = -43.02 N

The resultant horizontal force F₃' = F₁' + F₂' = 93.97 N + 61.44 N = 155.41 N

The resultant vertical force F₃" = F₁" + F₂" = 34.2 N - 43.02 N = -8.82 N

If f is the frictional force on the block, the net horizontal force on the block is F = F₃' - f.

Since f = μN where μ = coefficient of kinetic friction = 0.4 and N = normal force on the block.

For the block to be in contact with the surface, the vertical forces on the block must balance.

Since the normal force, N must equal the resultant vertical force F₃" and the weight, W = mg of the object for a zero net vertical force,

N = mg + F₃" (since both the weight and the resultant vertical force act downwards)

N = mg + F₃"

Since m = mass of block = 35 kg and g = acceleration due to gravity = 9.8 m/s² and F₃" = 8.82 N

So,

N = mg + F₃"

N = 35 kg × 9.8 m/s² + 8.82 N

N = 343 N + 8.82 N

N = 351.82 N

So, the net horizontal force F = F₃' - f.

F = 155.41 N - 0.4 × 351.82 N

F = 155.41 N - 140.728 N

F = 14.682 N

Since F = ma, where a = acceleration of block,

a = F/m = 14.682 N/35 kg = 0.42 m/s²

To find the distance the block moved, x we use the equation

x = ut + 1/2at² where u = initial speed of block = 0 m/s, t = time = 10 s and a = acceleration of block = 0.42 m/s²

Substituting the values of the variables into the equation, we have

x = ut + 1/2at²

x = 0 m/s × 10 s + 1/2 × 0.42 m/s² × (10 s)²

x = 0 m + 1/2 × 0.42 m/s² × 100 s²

x = 0.21 m/s² × 100 s²

x = 21 m

So, the distance moved by the block is 21 m.

The size of Carvins Cove water reservoir is 3.2 billion gallons. Approximately, 11 cfs of water is continuous withdrawn from thi
Zolol [24]

Answer:

471 days

Explanation:

Capacity of Carvins Cove water reservoir = 3.2 billion gallons i.e. 3.2 x 10˄9 gallons

As,

1 gallon = 0.133 cubic feet (cf)

Therefore,

Capacity of Carvins Cove water reservoir in cf  = 3.2 x 10˄9 x 0.133

                                                                         = 4.28 x 10˄8

Applying Mass balance i.e

Accumulation = Mass In - Mass out (Eq. 01)

Here

Mass In = 0.5 cfs

Mass out = 11 cfs

Putting values in (Eq. 01)

Accumulation  = 0.5 - 11

                         = - 10.5 cfs

Negative accumulation shows that reservoir is depleting i.e. at a rate of 10.5 cubic feet per second.

Converting depletion of reservoir in cubic feet per hour = 10.5 x 3600

                                                                                       = 37,800

Converting depletion of reservoir in cubic feet per day = 37, 800 x 24

                                                                                         = 907,200

i.e. 907,200 cubic feet volume is being depleted in days = 1 day

1 cubic feet volume is being depleted in days = 1/907,200 day

4.28 x 10˄8 cubic feet volume will deplete in days  = (4.28 x 10˄8) x                    1/907,200

                                                                                 = 471 Days.

Hence in case of continuous drought reservoir will last for 471 days before dry-up.
