When calcium metal is placed in water, hydrogen gas bubbles out, leaving a highly alkaline (basic) solution. Write the balanced

chemical equation for this reaction. Phases are optional. Do not write an ionic equation (i.e., the answer should not show any charges).

Answer:

Ca (s) + 2H₂O (l) →  Ca(OH)₂ (aq)  +  H₂ (g)

Explanation:

When solid calcium reacts with water, it produces the correspondent hydroxid and hydrogen gas.

The hydroxid which is produced, is the calcium hydroxid which is a strong base, that's why you talk about a highly alkaline solution.

Ca (s) + 2H₂O (l) →  Ca(OH)₂ (aq)  +  H₂ (g)

Calcium hydroxide is a strong base, that dissociates in water, as this:

Ca(OH)₂  →  Ca²⁺ (aq)  + 2OH⁻ (aq)

It's a basic solution,  is providing hydroxyl ions to the medium

1.00 g of a compound is combusted in oxygen and found to give 3.14g of CO2 and 1.29 g of H2O. From these data we can tell thatA.
lora16 [44]

Answer:

the compound contains C, H, and some other element of unknownidentity, so we can’t calculate the empirical formula

Explanation:

Mass of CO2 obtained = 3.14 g

Hence number of moles of CO2 = 3.14g/44.0 g = 0.0714 mol

The mass of the carbon in the sample = 0.0714 mol × 12.0g/mol = 0.857 g

Mass of H2O obtained = 1.29 g

Hence number of moles of H2O = 1.29g/18.0 g = 0.0717 mol

The mass of the carbon in the sample = 0.0717 mol × 1g/mol = 0.0717 g

% by mass of carbon = 0.857/1 ×100 = 85.7 %

% by mass of hydrogen = 0.0717/1 × 100 = 7.17%

Mass of carbon and hydrogen = 85.7 + 7.17 = 92.87 %

Hence, there must be an unidentified element that accounts for (100 - 92.87) = 7.13% of the compound.

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate is an important intermediate molecule in the cell's metabolic pathways because __________.
olga55 [171]

Answer:

Present in both catabolic and anabolic pathways

Explanation:

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate abbreviated as G3P occurs as intermediate in glycolysis and gluconeogenesis.

In photosynthesis, it is produced by the light independent reaction and acts as carrier for returning ADP, phosphate ions Pi, and NADP+  to the light independent pathway. Photosynthesis is a anbolic pathway.

In glycolysis, Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate is produced by breakdown of fructose-1,6 -bisphosphate. Further Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate converted to pyruvate and pyruvate is further used in citric acid cycle for energy production. Therefore, it is used in catabolic pathway too.

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate is an important intermediate molecule in the cell's metabolic pathways because it is  present in both catabolic and anabolic pathways.

A 20.00 ml sample of a solution of sr(oh)2 is titrated to the equivalence point with 40.03 ml of 0.1159 n hcl. what is the molar
goblinko [34]
The   molarity  of Sr(OH)2  solution is  =  0.1159 M

    calculation
write the equation  for reaction
that is,  Sr(OH)2 +2HCl→ SrCl2 + 2 H2O

then finds the mole  of HCl used

moles = molarity x volume
=40.03 x0.1159 =  4.639 moles

by  use of mole ratio between Sr(OH)2 to  HCL which is 1 :2  the moles of Sr(OH)2  is therefore =  4.639  x1/2 = 2.312  moles

molarity  of  Sr(OH)2  is =  moles  / volume

=2.312 /20 =0.1159 M

What halogen can react with sodium chloride solution to produce chlorine?
ozzi

Answer:

As electro-negativity decreases from Florine to downwards in the group and only Florine is above Chlorine, so Florine should react with sodium chloride solution to produce chlorine.
