What is the evolutionary advantage of the heart having its own electrical system?

The heart’s electrical system is responsible for making and conducting signals that trigger the heart to beat. These signals cause the heart’s muscle to contract. With each contraction, blood is pumped throughout the body. This happens 24/7 without us having to monitor it all the time so that our heart does not stop.

In 1985 a biologist counted 750 pine trees in a 250 hectare forest. Using similar counting techniques, the biologist counted 1,2
Alisiya [41]

Answer:

Suppose that we have a given function f(x)

The average rate of change of the function between two values x₁ and x₂ is given by:

r = \frac{f(x_2) - f(x_1)}{x_2 - x_1}

a) We want to find the average (rate) of change on the size of population from 1985 to 1995.

We have that:

f(1985) = 750

f(1995) = 1500

Then we have:

r = \frac{1500 - 750}{1995 - 1985}  = 750/10 = 75

This means that the population of trees increases, in average, at a rate of 75 trees per year.

b) What is the density of trees each year that they were counted?

This will be equal to the quotient between the number of trees and the area.

1985: number of trees = 750 pines

         area = 250 ha

Then the density is:

D(1985) = (750 pines)/(250 ha) = 3 pines/ha

So 1985, there were 3 pines per hectare.

1990: number of trees = 1250 pines

         area = 250 ha

Then the density is:

D(1990) = (1250 pines)/(250 ha) = 5 pines/ha

1995: number of trees = 1500 pines

         area = 250 ha

The density is:

D(1995) = (1500 pines)/(250 ha) = 6 pines/ha

3) now we want to get the average change between 1985 and 1995 in the density, this will be:

r = \frac{D(1995) - D(1885)}{1995 - 1985}  = \frac{6 pines/ha - 3pines/ha}{10}  = 0.3 pines/ha

So, on average, each year the number of pines per hectare increases by 0.3

The value of ∆G for a chemical reaction taking place in an organism is −255 kJ. Which of the following best describes how this w
Sladkaya [172]

Answer:

D. The reaction will release energy the organism can use to do work.

Explanation:

A negative ∆G means that the products have less free energy than their reactants. This energy had to go somewhere, it can't just disappear. That means that 255kJ of energy was released, turning into free energy for the organism to use for work.

Which of these would not be considered an invasive species?
Marysya12 [62]

Answer:

C) In 1946, the Argentinian government imported fifty beavers from Canada, which were to be released in Cami Lake with the intention of creating a commercial fur trading industry. Though a viable industry ultimately failed to materialize, the introduction of the beavers into the region has had far-reaching consequences.

The restriction endonuclease ecori cleaves the dna sequence 5'-gaattc-3' in such a way as to leave a 5' overhang, which is often
qaws [65]

The restriction endonuclease EcoRI cleaves the DNA sequence 5'-GAATTC-3' in such a way as to leave a 5' overhang, which is often referred to as a "sticky end". To 5' overhang with the complementary sequence this sticky end adhere.

  • The palindrome EcoRI restriction site breaks DNA after G and creates sticky ends with AATT. G/corresponding AATTC's DNA sequence is CTTAA/G, where "/" designates the location of the peptide bond break.
  • When the ssDNA sequence 5'-GAATTC'-3 is recognised by the restriction endonuclease EcoRI, a single-strand cut is made between the G and A nucleotides.
  • At the ultimate end of double-stranded DNA, an overhang is single-stranded DNA. This can occur on either strand, and if it does, there will either be a 5' overhang on the 5' end of the strand or a 3' overhang on the 3' end of the strand.
