Why do atoms tend to be bonded to other atoms?
Aleks04 [339]

Answer:

Atoms are often more stable when bonded to other atoms

Explanation:

Like for example let's say ionic bonds..... Since one atom has to lose specific electrons to be stable and the other needs the electrons from the other atom to be stable.....

Match the atoms to their type of bond.Nitrogen (N) and oxygen (O)Gold (Au) and gold (Au)Chlorine (Cl) and lithium (Li)?Ionic?Cov
AnnyKZ [126]

Answer:

a) Covalent

b) Metallic

c) Ionic

Explanation:

Here, we want to match the elements to the correct bond types

a) Nitrogen and oxygen

These are elements with similar electronegativities. Due to this, they tend to bond by covalent bonding wherein electrons are shared

b) Gold and gold

This is also a type of covalent bonding called metallic bonding. It is called metallic as it is between two metallic atoms

c) Lithium and Chlorine

What we have here would be an ionic bonding. This is because we are having a metallic atom bonded to a non-metallic atom. It is happening because of the large electronegativity gap between the two elements. In the real sense, lithium would donate the single electron in its valence shell to the valence shell of chlorine that needs an extra one

which criteria are responsible for deciding whether a heterogeneous mixture is a colloid or a suspension?
Gre4nikov [31]
The differences, as illustrated by the attached table, are that the particles of a colloid are smaller than those of a suspension, and that the particles do not separate out in a colloid but they do in a suspension. As an extension of the latter property, a colloid cannot be separated by filtration while a suspension can be. The optical properties are useful to make a quick determination.

Aside from silica gel and alumina what other stationary phase can you use in chromatography
Svetlanka [38]

Answer:

Paper

Explanation:

In chromatographic separation, two different phases are important; a stationary phase and a mobile phase.

The stationary phase is the phase that does not move. Substances are separated based on how fast or slowly they move in the stationary phase.

The mobile phase is usually the solvent(or mixture of solvents) that carries the solutes through the stationary phase.

The stationary phase is usually composed of a porous material. Paper is a porous material. The mobile phase is trapped between the cellulose fibers of the paper and separation is achieved.
