Alveolar ventilation refers to the process of gas exchange between alveoli and their external environment. Alveolar Ventilation is measured in millimeters per munites (ml/min), this rate of airflow indicates the gas exchange during normal breathing. Neuromuscular diseases are known to produce alveolar hypoventilation. The low tidal volume ventilation is used to avoid ventilator-associated conditions. In persons without acute respiratory distress conditions (for example, asthma), the recommended tidal value is 6–8 mL/kg.
