Phenol, c6h5oh, is a stronger acid than methanol, ch3oh, even though both contain an o]h bond. Draw the structures of the anions

resulting from loss of h1 from phenol and methanol, and use resonance structures to explain the difference in acidity.

In resonance structures, the chemical connectivity in the molecule is same but the distribution of electrons are different around the structure.  They are created by moving electrons in double or triple bonds, and not atoms.

Phenol, C_6H_5OH and methanol, CH_3OH both are alcohols  that contain an -OH group attached to carbon atom.

Due to loss of 1 H from phenol, it forms phenoxide anion and due to presence of double bond in the benzene ring the negative charge on the oxygen atom (which represents electrons) will resonate with double bonds of benzene ring as shown in the image. The resonance-stabilized phenoxide ion is more stable. Whereas when methanol lose 1 H it forms methoxide anion and there are no such electrons present in the structure of methoxide that will result in the movement of electron. Since, due to resonance-stabilized phenoxide ion is more stable than methoxide ion, so it is a stronger acid.

The structures of the anions resulting from loss of 1 H from phenol and methanol is shown in the image.

Select the keyword or phrase that will best complete each sentence. must undergo addition because they have easily broken tt bon
STatiana [176]

Alkenes must undergo addition because they have easily broken tt bonds.

Markonikov's rule states in the addition of HX to an unsymmetrical alkene, the H atom bonds to the less substituted carbon atom.

alkenes are unsaturated hydrocarbons because they have fewer than the maximum number of hydrogen atoms per carbon.

Alkyl halides have good leaving groups and therefore readily undergo substitution and elimination reactions.

In hydroboration, the boron atom bonds to the substituted carbon.

Hydroxides, amines and alcoxides undergo substitution and elimination, but can do so only when the heteroatom is made into a good leaving group.

Calculate the specific heat of a substance if a 35g sample absorbs 48 j as the temperature is raised from 293 k to 313 k
bulgar [2K]

Answer:

c = 0.07 j/g.k

Explanation:

Given data:

Mass of sample = 35 g

Heat absorbed = 48 j

Initial temperature = 293 K

Final temperature = 313 K

Specific heat of substance = ?

Solution:

Specific heat capacity:

It is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one gram of substance by one degree.

Formula:

Q = m.c. ΔT

Q = amount of heat absorbed or released

m = mass of given substance

c = specific heat capacity of substance

ΔT = change in temperature

ΔT = Final temperature - initial temperature

ΔT = 313 k - 293 K

ΔT = 20 k

Now we will put the values in formula.

48 j = 35 g × c× 20 k

48 j = 700 g.k ×c

c = 48 j/700 g.k

c = 0.07 j/g.k

Describe the day of June 21 at the North Pole in terms of daylight and darkness <br> ( science )
frosja888 [35]
On June 21, as seen from the North pole ...

-- the sun has been up, and it's been light outside,
for the past three months ... ever since March 21 .

-- The sun won't set, and it won't be dark outside,
for another three months ... until September 21.

-- Here at the North pole, it stays daylight for six months straight.
Today, on June 21, we're exactly halfway through the period of
continuous daylight.
