The rope is staked to the ground 21 ft away from the base of the pole.

As shown in the figure given below.

By using the pythagorean theorem

Hypotenuse² = Perpendicular² + Base²

AC² = AB² + BC²

As

AC = 29 feet

BC = 21 feet

Put in the above

29² = AB² + 21²

841 = AB² + 441

841 -441 = AB²

400 = AB²

AB = \sqrt{400}

AB = 20 feet

Therefore the height of the flag pole is 20 feet .

L2² = H² - L1²
L2² = 29² - 21²
L2² = 841 - 441
