deals with the concepts that are important in this problem. A grasshopper makes four jumps. The displacement vectors are (1) 31.

0 cm, due west; (2) 32.0 cm, 34.0 ° south of west; (3) 16.0 cm, 57.0 ° south of east; and (4) 16.0 cm, 75.0 ° north of east. Find (a) the magnitude and (b) direction of the resultant displacement. Express the direction as a positive angle with respect to due west.

(a) 46.6 cm

To calculate the total displacement, we need to resolve each vector along the x- and y- direction.

In the following, we take:

- East as positive x-direction, West as negative x-direction

- North as positive y-direction, South as negative y-direction

Vector A:

A_x = -31.0 cm\\A_y = 0

Vector B:

B_x = -(32.0 cm) cos 34.0^{\circ}=-25.6 cm\\B_y = -(32.0 cm) sin 34.0^{\circ} = -17.9 cm

Vector C:

C_x = (16.0 cm)cos 57.0^{\circ} =8.7 cm\\C_y = -(16.0 cm)sin 57.0^{\circ} =-13.4 cm

Vector D:

D_x = (16.0 cm) cos 75.0^{\circ} =4.1 cm\\D_y = (16.0 cm) sin 75.0^{\circ} =15.5 cm

So the components of the total displacement are:

R_x = -31.0 cm - 25.6 cm +8.7 cm +4.1 cm =-43.8 cm\\R_y = 0-17.9 cm -13.4 cm +15.5 cm =-15.8 cm

So the magnitude of the total displacement is:

R=\sqrt{R_x^2 + R_y^2}=\sqrt{(-43.8 cm)^2+(-15.8 cm)^2}=46.6 cm

(b) 19.8 degrees south of west

First of all, let's notice that:

- both components x and y of the total displacement are negative --> this means that the direction of the displacement is south of west

This means that the angle will be given by

\theta = tan^{-1} (\frac{R_y}{R_x})

where we have

R_x = -43.8 cm\\R_y = -15.8 cm

Substituting, we find

\theta = tan^{-1} (\frac{-15.8 cm}{43.8 cm})=19.8^{\circ}

and this angle is south of west.

Assume the earth to be a nonrotating sphere with mass MEME and radius RERE. If an astronaut weights WW on the ground, what is hi
Solnce55 [7]

Answer:

The weight at a distance 2 RE from surface of earth is <em>W/9</em>

Explanation:

For the value of acceleration due to gravity (g), we have a formula, that is:

g = (G)(ME)/(RE)²    ----- equation (1)

where,

G = Gravitational Constant

ME = Mass of Earth

RE = Radius of Earth

g = Acceleration due to gravity on surface of earth = 9.8 ms²

When the person goes 2RE, distance above earth's surface. Then the total distance from center of earth becomes: 2RE + RE = 3RE.

Therefore, equation (1) becomes:

gh = (G)(ME)/(3RE)²

where,

gh = acceleration due to gravity at height

gh = (G)(ME)/(RE)²9

using equation (1), we get:

gh = g/9

Now, he weight is given by formula:

W = mg   ------- equation (2)

At height 2RE

Wh = (m)(gh)

where,

Wh = Weight at height = ?

m = mass of astronaut

Therefore, using vale of gh, we get:

Wh = mg/9

Using equation (2), we get:

<u>Wh = W/9</u>

A trapeze artist swings in simple harmonic motion with a period of 3.8 s.
pogonyaev
As we know that time period of simple pendulum is given as

T = 2π √L/g

here we know that

T = 3.8 s

now from above equation we know that

T² = 4π² (L/g)

now on rearranging the above equation we will have

L = gT² / 4π²

now plug in all data into it

L = (9.8) (3.8)² / (4) (3.14)²

so the length of the cable must be 3.6 m

A car is rounding a 100-m-radius curve at 25 m/s.What is the minimum possible coefficient of static friction between the tires a
Crazy boy [7]

Answer:

The minimum possible coefficient of static friction between the tires and the ground is 0.64.

Explanation:

if the μ is the coefficient of static friction and R is radius of the curve and v is the speed of the car then, one thing we know is that along the curve, the frictional force, f will be equal to the centripedal force, Fc and this relation is :

Fc = f

m×(v^2)/(R) = μ×m×g

    (v^2)/(R) = g×μ

               μ = (v^2)/(R×g)

                  =  ((25)^2)/((100)×(9.8))

                  = 0.64

Therefore, the minimum possible coefficient of static friction between the tires and the ground is 0.64.
