Mathematically combine the three given reactions so that they sum to give a balanced chemical equation describing the production

of propane C3H8(g), from its elements, C(s.graphite) and H2lg). Show your intermediate steps. For example, if you must reverse reaction (c), enter the reverse in the appropriate answer box; if you multiply reaction (a) by 2, enter the updated equation in the corresponding answer box. Make sure to enter the overall balanced equation at the bottom (a) C3Hg(g)+502C2+H2O0) (b) C(s)+02(g)> CO2(g) (c) H2(«)+ 7o(Hod)

Answer and Explanation

The final reaction is the production of propane from Carbon and Hydrogen.

3C (s) + 4H2 (g) ---> C3H8 (g)

So, reverse eq. A,

3CO2 (g) + 4H20 (l) ---> C3H8 (g) + 502 (g)

Add 3 × eq. B,

3C (s) + 3O2 (g) ----> 3CO2 (g)

Add 4 × eq. C,

4H2 (g) + 2O2 (g) ---> 4H20 (l)

Writing them together,

3CO2 (g) + 4H20 (l) ---> C3H8 (g) + 502 (g)

+ 3C (s) + 3O2 (g) ----> 3CO2 (g)

+ 4H2 (g) + 2O2 (g) ---> 4H20 (l)

------------------------------------------------------------

3CO2 (g) + 4H20 (l) + 3C (s) + 3O2 (g) + 4H2 (g) + 2O2 (g) ---> C3H8 (g) + 502 (g) + 3CO2 (g) + 4H20 (l)

The compounds that exist on both sides cancel out and we're left with

3C (s) + 4H2 (g) ---> C3H8 (g)

So, mathematically, the final reaction can be written as:

(-eq. A + 3(eq. B) + 4(eq. C))

-A+3B+4C = 3C (s) + 4H2 (g) ---> C3H8 (g)

How does physical weathering happen?
Ilya [14]

Answer:

Physical weathering is caused by the effects of changing temperature on rocks, causing the rock to break apart. The process is sometimes assisted by water. Freeze-thaw occurs when water continually seeps into cracks, freezes and expands, eventually breaking the rock apart

What is the oxidation number of sulfur in BaSO4?
____ [38]

Answer:

+6

Explanation:

We are given;

  • Compound BaSO₄

We are required to determine the oxidation number of S in the compound.

We need to know that;

  • The total oxidation number of this compound is Zero
  • Oxidation number of Ba metal is +2
  • Oxidation number of Oxygen atom is -2
  • There is 1 atom of Ba, 1 atom of S and 4 atoms of O in the compound.

Therefore; assuming oxidation number of S is x

Then, (1× 2) + (1 × x) + ( 4 ×(-2)) = 0

2 + x - 8 = 0

x = 6 or +6

Thus oxidation number of Sulfur in BaSO₄ is +6.

7. An 8.92 kilogram bar of steel at 25°C is heated in order to shape it into a beam. The amount of heat energy
kobusy [5.1K]

Answer:

1279 °C

Explanation:

Data Given:

Amount of Heat absorb = 5.82 x 10³ KJ

Convert KJ to J

1 KJ = 1000 J

5.82 x 10³ KJ = 5.82 x 10³ x 1000 = 5.82 x10⁶ J

mass of sample = 8.92 Kg

Convert Kg to g

1 kg = 1000 g

8.92 Kg = 8.92 x 1000 = 8920 g

Cs of steel = 0.51 J/g °C

change in temperature = ?

Solution:

Formula used

             Q = Cs.m.ΔT

rearrange the above equation to calculate the mass of steel sample

             ΔT =  Q / Cs.m  .... . . . . . (1)

Where:

Q = amount of heat

Cs = specific heat of steel = 0.51 J/g °C

m = mass

ΔT = Change in temperature

Put values in above equation 1

                ΔT = 5.82 x10⁶ J / 0.51  (J/g °C) x 8920 g

                ΔT = 5.82 x10⁶ J /4549.2 (J/°C)

                ΔT = 1279 °C

So,

change in temperature = 1279 °C
