Note the equal sign. What you do to one side, you do to the other.

Follow PEMDAS.

First, distribute -3 to all terms within the parenthesis.

-9 = -3(x + 2)

-9 = -3x - 6

Next, do the opposite of PEMDAS. Isolate the x. Note the equal sign. What you do to one side, you do the other.

Add 6 to both sides

-9 = -3x - 6

-9 (+6) = -3x - 6 (+6)

-9 + 6 = -3x

-3x = -3

Isolate the x. Divide - 3 from both sides

-3x/-3 = -3/-3

x = -3/-3

x = 1

1 is your answer for x

SimplifyOkie dokie so first things first, you have to get rid of those parentheses! To do this you use the distributive property. -3(x+2) is the same thing as -3(x)+-3(2). that and you get -9=-3x-6. So you want to get x by itself to be able to find what x is, so you add 6 to both sides of the equation to get rid of the -6. So then you get -3=-3x. Then you must divide both sides by the coefficient of x, which would be -3. When you divide both sides by -3 you get -3/-3=x, which is the same thing as 1=x. Hope this helped!

Plz help...<br> 6b - 49 =2(b - 3)
wel
You always start by simplifying.
6b-49=2<span>(</span>b-3) becomes 6b-49=2b-6
From there you can group the b's together by subtracting 2b from both sides, leaving you with 4b-49=-6
Now you can get the b's alone by adding 49 (to cancel out -49) to both sides, giving you 4b=43, You're still trying to get b by itself, so what you'll do is divide both sides by 4, giving you b=10.75
