Hi there! Hopefully this helps!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5(0.3) + 2y = 20

<h2>Answer: Y = 9.25.</h2><h2>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~</h2><h2 />

| 5(0.3) + 2y = 20

| Multiply 5 and 0.3 to get 1.5

\/

1.5 + 2y = 20

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We <em>subtract 1.5</em> from <u>both sides</u>.
2y = 20 - 1.5
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Subtract 1.5 from 20 to get 18.5.

2y = 18.5

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Divide both sides by 2.
y = \frac{18.5}{2}
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Expand \frac{18.5}{2} = 9.25 by multiplying both numerator and the denominator by 10.

y =\frac{185}{20}

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Reduce the fraction \frac{185}{20} = 9.25 to lowest terms by <u>extracting and canceling</u> out 5.
y =\frac{37}{4}.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

\frac{37}{4} = 9.25 in decimal form.
