Capacitors C1 = 5.85 µF and C2 = 2.80 µF are charged as a parallel combination across a 250 V battery. The capacitors are discon

nected from the battery and from each other. They are then connected positive plate to negative plate and negative plate to positive plate. Calculate the resulting charge on each capacitor.

Answer:

Q1_new = 515.68 µC

Q2_new = 246.82 µC

Explanation:

Since the capacitors are charged in parallel and not in series, then both are at 250 V when they are disconnected from the battery.

Then it is only necessary to calculate the charge on each capacitor:

Q1 = 5.85 µF * 250 V = 1462.5 µC

Q2 = 2.8 µF * 250 V = 700 µC

Now, we will look at 1462.5 µC as excess negative charges on one plate, and 1462.5 µC as excess positive charges on the other plate. Now, we will use this same logic for the smaller capacitor.

When there is a connection of positive plate of C1 to the negative plate of C2, and also a connection of the negative plate of C1 to the positive plate of C2, some of these excess opposite charges will combine and cancel each other. The result is that of a net charge:

1462.5 µC - 700 µC = 762.5 µC

Thus,762.5 µC of net charge will remain in the 'new' positive and negative plates of the resulting capacitor system.

This 762.5 µC will be divided proportionately between the two capacitors.

Q1_new = 762.5 µC * (5.85/(5.85 + 2.8)) = 515.68 µC

Q2_new = 762.5 µC * (2.8/(5.85 + 2.8) = 246.82 µC

a 1 m length of string is wrapped around a solid disk, of mass .25 kg and a radius of .30m, mounted on a frictionless axle. the
Nezavi [6.7K]

Answer:

60 rad/s

Explanation:

∑τ = Iα

Fr = Iα

For a solid disc, I = ½ mr².

Fr = ½ mr² α

α = 2F / (mr)

α = 2 (20 N) / (0.25 kg × 0.30 m)

α = 533.33 rad/s²

The arc length is 1 m, so the angle is:

s = rθ

1 m = 0.30 m θ

θ = 3.33 rad

Use constant acceleration equation to find ω.

ω² = ω₀² + 2αΔθ

ω² = (0 rad/s)² + 2 (533.33 rad/s²) (3.33 rad)

ω = 59.6 rad/s

Rounding to one significant figure, the angular velocity is 60 rad/s.

John and Linda are arguing about the definition of density. John says the density of an object is proportional to itsmass. Linda
NeX [460]

Answer:

They are both correct.

Explanation:

The density of an object is defined as the ratio of its mass to its volume. This implies that the density of the object is both proportional to the mass and also to the volume of the object. John only mentioned mass which is correct. Linda mentioned the second variable on which density depends which is the volume of the object.

Hence considering the both statements objectively, one can say that they are both correct.
