Capacitors C1 = 5.85 µF and C2 = 2.80 µF are charged as a parallel combination across a 250 V battery. The capacitors are discon

nected from the battery and from each other. They are then connected positive plate to negative plate and negative plate to positive plate. Calculate the resulting charge on each capacitor.

Answer:

Q1_new = 515.68 µC

Q2_new = 246.82 µC

Explanation:

Since the capacitors are charged in parallel and not in series, then both are at 250 V when they are disconnected from the battery.

Then it is only necessary to calculate the charge on each capacitor:

Q1 = 5.85 µF * 250 V = 1462.5 µC

Q2 = 2.8 µF * 250 V = 700 µC

Now, we will look at 1462.5 µC as excess negative charges on one plate, and 1462.5 µC as excess positive charges on the other plate. Now, we will use this same logic for the smaller capacitor.

When there is a connection of positive plate of C1 to the negative plate of C2, and also a connection of the negative plate of C1 to the positive plate of C2, some of these excess opposite charges will combine and cancel each other. The result is that of a net charge:

1462.5 µC - 700 µC = 762.5 µC

Thus,762.5 µC of net charge will remain in the 'new' positive and negative plates of the resulting capacitor system.

This 762.5 µC will be divided proportionately between the two capacitors.

Q1_new = 762.5 µC * (5.85/(5.85 + 2.8)) = 515.68 µC

Q2_new = 762.5 µC * (2.8/(5.85 + 2.8) = 246.82 µC

Which one of Newton’s Laws explains the motion of an object that is traveling with uniform circular motion?
DedPeter [7]

Answer:

Explanation:

A uniform circular motion is an example of accelerated motion.

When an object is moving in a uniform circular motion, there is a centripetal force acting towards the centre of the circular path and then a centrifugal force is also acting away from the centre of the circular path. The magnitude of the centripetal force and the centrifugal force is same but the direction is opposite to each other. So, it is explained by the Newton's third law.

The three mountains task examines the development of
GalinKa [24]

Answer:

The Three Mountain Task was developed by Jean Piaget and Bärbel Inhelder in the 1940s to study children's ability to coordinate spatial perspectives. In the task, a child faced a display of three model mountains while a researcher placed a doll at different viewpoints of the display.

A car is being tested for safety by colliding it with a brick wall.The 1300 kg car is initially driving towards the wall at a sp
serg [7]

Answer:

44200 N

Explanation:

To calculate the average force exerted on the car, we will use the following equation

\begin{gathered} Ft=\Delta p \\ Ft=m(v_f-v_i) \end{gathered}

Where F is the average force, t is the time, m is the mass, vf is the final velocity and vi is the initial velocity of the car.

Replacing t = 0.5s, m = 1300 kg, vf = -2 m/s, and vi = 15 m/s and solving for F, we get

\begin{gathered} F(0.5s)=(1300\text{ kg\rparen\lparen-2 m/s - 15 m/s\rparen} \\ F(0.5s)=(1300\text{ kg\rparen\lparen-17 m/s\rparen} \\ F(0.5s)=-22100\text{ kg m/s} \\ F=\frac{-22100\text{ kg m/s}}{0.5\text{ s}} \\ F=-44200\text{ N} \end{gathered}

Therefore, the average force exerted on the car by the wall was 44200 N

Batman (mass = 96.1 kg) jumps straight down from a bridge into a boat (mass = 458 kg) in which a criminal is fleeing. The veloci
MariettaO [177]

Answer:

The velocity of the boat after the batman lands in it is +9.26 m/s

Explanation:

Applying the law of conservation of momentum,

Total momentum before collision = Total momentum after collision.

Note: The collision between the Batman and the boat is an inelastic collision.

m'u'+mu = V(m+m').................... Equation 1

Where m' = mass of the Batman, u' = initial velcoity of the batman, m = mass of the boat, u = initial velocity of the boat, V = common velocity.

make V the subject of equation 1

V = (m'u'+mu)/(m+m')............... Equation 2

Given: m' = 96.1 kg, u' = 0 m/s, m = 458 kg, u = +11.3 m/s.

Substitute these values into equation 2

V = [(96.1×0)+(458×11.2)]/(96.1+458)

V = 5129.6/554.1

V = +9.26 m/s
