Gravity is what pulls objects down to the Earth.

Here is the scientific definition for gravity: "the force that attracts a body toward the center of the earth, or toward any other physical body having mass. For most purposes Newton's laws of gravity apply, with minor modifications to take the general theory of relativity into account."
It works like this: Gravity makes an object go down. Like it is what makes people stand on earth and not fly all around Earth and space.
Space has flying objects like meteors, space objects that fly up there, and other things like those that go to space. If space had gravity we would have a whole bunch of planets, meteors, and even us (the whole earth with it) would fall down and probably would never stop falling because space doesn't have an end. But space has 0% gravity which causes us to not fall but since we are on the ring circling around the sun, earth doesn't go flying all around space.

An example is: Us. We're an example of gravity because we stick to the ground. Another example is: If there was a table with a rock on it, but the table moved, the rock would fall because of gravity and nothing would be in its way.

Glad to help! :)

Without consulting any tables, arrange the following substances in order and explain your choice of order: (a) Mg21, Ar, Br2, Ca
Olenka [21]

Explanation:

(a) When we move across a period then there occurs a decrease in atomic size of the elements due to increase in force of attraction between the protons and electrons of an atom.

On the other hand, when we move down a group then there will occur an increase in atomic size of the elements due to increase in number of electrons which will also increase number of shells.

For example, Mg and Ca are group 2 elements, Br is a group 17 element and Ar is a group 18 element.

Hence, these are arranged in order of increasing radius as Ar < Br < Mg < Ca.

(b) Ionization energy is defined as the energy required to remove the most loosely bound electron from a neutral gaseous atom.

When we move across a period from left to right then there occurs a decrease in atomic size of the atoms. Therefore, ionization energy increases along a period but decreases along a group.

Hence, order of increasing ionization energy for the given species is as follows.

                    Na < O < Na^{+} = Ne

(c) Electronegativity is defined as the ability of an atom to attract electrons towards itself. When we move across a period then there occurs an increase in electronegativity of the atoms.

And, when we move down a group then there occurs a decrease in electronegativity of the atoms.

Therefore, for the given elements order of increasing electronegativity is as follows.

                       Al < H < O F

A lab analysis of 0.502 g of Scandium (Sc) reaction with Oxygen (O2) from Air resulted
VARVARA [1.3K]

The empirical formula of the metal oxide would be Sc_2O_3

What is empirical formula?

Mass of scandium = 0.502g

Mass of scandium + oxygen = 0.768g

Mass of oxygen = 0.768 - 0.502 = 0.266g

Mole of scandium = 0.502/44.95 = 0.011

Mole of oxygen = 0.266/16 = 0.017

Divide by the lowest:

Scandium = 0.011/0.011 = 1

Oxygen = 0.017.0.011 = 1.5

Thus, the empirical formula of the compound would be ScO_1.5 or Sc_2O_3
