suppose we have two masses m1=2000 g and m2=4000g, where m1 is moving with initial velocity v1,i=24m/s and m2 is at rest at t=0s

. they collide with each other at some time t=t1 after the collision they stick together and move as one. what is the final velocity, v1f, (magnitude and direction)

Answer:

The final velocity is 8 m/s and its direction is along the positive x-axis

Explanation:

Given :

Mass, m₁ = 2000 g = 2 kg

Mass, m₂ = 4000 g = 4 kg

Initial velocity of mass m₁, v₁ = 24i m/s

Initial velocity of mass m₂, v₂ = 0

According to the problem, after collision the two masses are stick together and moving with same velocity, that is, v_{1f}.

Applying conservation of momentum,

Momentum before collision = Momentum after collision

m_{1} v_{1} +m_{2} v_{2} =(m_{1}+m_{2}) v_{1f}

Substitute the suitable values in the above equation.

2\times24 +4\times0 =(2+4}) v_{1f}

v_{1f}=8i\ m/s

Two volumes of William Shakespeare stand on a bookshelf next to each other: volume one, then volume two. Each volume is 4 cm thi
Setler79 [48]

Answer:

L = 7 [cm]

Explanation:

To solve this problem we must analyze each of the distances mentioned and take into account the number of covers and thicknesses of these.

The worm crosses through the sheets of the first book, this distance can be determined by the following length analysis.

4 = P + 2*C

Where:

P = thicknesses of the pages [cm]

C = thicknesses of each cover [cm]

P = 4 - 2*(0.5)

P = 3 [cm]

The distance crossed was:

L = P + 2C + P "the pages of the first book + 2 covers + the pages of the second book"

L = 3 + (2*0.5) + 3

L = 7 [cm]

What are some of the major differences between the ancient Olympics and modern-day Olympics? List and describe at least two diff
umka21 [38]

Answer:

1

The ancient Olympic games only allowed people of Greek descent to participate. The Salt Lake City Olympics featured 2600 athletes from 77 countries. Only a few hundred athletes participated in the ancient games.

#2

Only men were allowed to compete in the ancient Greek games. Athletic training in ancient Greece was part of every free male citizen's education. The first women to compete in the Olympics were Marie Ohnier and Mme. Brohy. They participated in croquet games in the 1900 Olympics.

One way to conserve energy is to replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. The fluorescent bulb typically
NemiM [27]

Answer:

     cos to = $ 24

Explanation:

When replacing the bulb only 25% of the energy is used, therefore

          W = 0.25 100

          W = 25 W

Let's look for the energy in the life of the bulb

          E = 25 10⁻³ 12000

          E = 300 Kwh

now we can calculate the cost using a direct proportion rule.

          Cost = 0.08 300

          cos to = $ 24

A rubber band has potential energy of 5 J. If the spring constant of the rubber band is 50 N/m, what is the displacement of the
Valentin [98]
To determine the displacement, since we are given the potential energy, we use the equation for potential energy. For a spring, it is one-half the product of the spring constant and the square of the displacement. We do as follows:

PE = kx^2/2
5 Nm = 50N/m (x^2)
x = 0.32 m

Therefore, the displacement would be 0.32 m.
