suppose we have two masses m1=2000 g and m2=4000g, where m1 is moving with initial velocity v1,i=24m/s and m2 is at rest at t=0s

. they collide with each other at some time t=t1 after the collision they stick together and move as one. what is the final velocity, v1f, (magnitude and direction)

Answer:

The final velocity is 8 m/s and its direction is along the positive x-axis

Explanation:

Given :

Mass, m₁ = 2000 g = 2 kg

Mass, m₂ = 4000 g = 4 kg

Initial velocity of mass m₁, v₁ = 24i m/s

Initial velocity of mass m₂, v₂ = 0

According to the problem, after collision the two masses are stick together and moving with same velocity, that is, v_{1f}.

Applying conservation of momentum,

Momentum before collision = Momentum after collision

m_{1} v_{1} +m_{2} v_{2} =(m_{1}+m_{2}) v_{1f}

Substitute the suitable values in the above equation.

2\times24 +4\times0 =(2+4}) v_{1f}

v_{1f}=8i\ m/s

Inessa05 [86]
Assume the wooden piece prevents the balloon from rising, is not so heavy as to cause the balloon to descend. and the 15 m/s is horizontal velocity “riding the wind,” That horizontal velocity does not affect the time the wood will take to reach the ground after release. Initial vertical velocity is zero.

s = u t + 1/2 g t^2

s is the height above ground, 300 m.

u is initial vertical velocity, zero.

t is time to reach the ground.

g is acceleration of gravity near Earth, 9.8 m/s^2.

300 m = 0 t + 1/2 (9.8 m/s^2) t^2

300 m = (4.9 m/s^2) t^2

61.22 s^2 = t^2

7.82 seconds = t

what will be the effect on the acceleration due to gravity of the earth if it is compressed to a the size the moon?
GuDViN [60]

Answer:

it gravitional pull on earth will increased becauste it is compress to a form of moon which is comperatively smaller so the gravitonal pull on per cm of earth will incrased so we can say that there will be change in acceleration due to gravity

What happens to the velocity of an object when balanced force acts on it?
Pani-rosa [81]
When the entire group of forces acting on an object is balanced,
the individual forces all add up to zero, and the effect on the object
is the same as it would be if there were no force at all acting on it.

No force on it means no acceleration ... no change in speed or
direction of motion.

No change in speed or direction of motion means constant velocity.

Consider a cylinder initially filled with 9.33 10-4 m3 of ideal gas at atmospheric pressure. An external force is applied to slo
Juli2301 [7.4K]

Answer:

Work done will be 78.76 J

Explanation:

We have given initial volume of the gas V_1=9.33\times 10^{-4}m^3

Pressure is given by P=1.013\times 10^5Pa

Final volume V_2=\frac{V_1}{6}=\frac{9.33\times 10^{-4}}{6}=1.555\times 10^{-4}m^3

Change in volume \Delta V=V_2-V_1=1.555\times 10^{-4}-9.33\times 10^{-4}=-7.775\times 10^{-4}m^3

We know that work done is given by

W=-Pdv=-1.013\times 10^5\times 7.775\times 10^{-4}=78.760J

Work done will be 78.76 J
