The attached image shows the path followed by an airplane that is trying to land. From the figure, it can be seen that initially, its position was 200 m due east, then 150 m due south, 200 m due west, 250 m due south.

(a) The total path covered during its entire journey is called distance.

D = 200 m+150 m+200 m+250 m

D = 800 m

(b) The shortest path covered by an object is called displacement of an object. The shortest path covered is shown by red color. It means that displacement is (150+250) m = 400 m

(c) It is clear from the figure that, the Airplane's displacement is in the south direction.

If the light is traveling straight up, then it hits the interface (surface
or boundary) between water and air perpendicularly (90° to the surface).

This direction is the direction of the 'normal' to the surface.  So the
angle of incidence is zero, and that means the angle of refraction is
also zero.  The light just keeps going in the same direction when it
emerges into the air, and is not bent.

However, its speed increases in air, and that means its wavelength
also becomes longer than it was in the water.
