Firstly they are not numbers, they are ordered pairs or points with a form (x,f(x)) yes they probably lie on a function graph but that would be rather impossible to find out. The function may be linear, exponential, logarithmic etc. we can't tell. All we can tell is that if these ordered pairs P_{1,2,3} lie on a function graph P_{1,2,3}\in G_f where G_f=\{(x,f(x)):\forall x\in D_f\wedge f(x)\in T_f\} where D is definition set of function defined x's and T a transformation set of f(x)'s for this function. So yes they may lie on some lambda function but they themselves are nothing but an ordered pairs with no meaningful connection.

Hope this helps.

An archaeologist uses an accelerator mass spectrometer to find the age of a buried branch. At the 68\%68%68, percent confidence
Komok [63]

Answer:

B. 10000 years old, with a margin of error of 400 years

Step-by-step explanation:

Assuming this complete problem: "12. An archaeologist uses an accelerator mass spectrometer to find the age of a buried branch. At the 68% confidence level, the spectrometer estimates that the branch was 10,000 years old with a following could the spectrometer estimate as the age of the branch at the 95% confidence level?"

The possible options are:

A. 9500 years old, with a margin of error of 500 years

B. 10000 years old, with a margin of error of 400 years

C. 9500 years olds, with a margin of error of 50 years

D. 10000 years old, with a margin of error of 40 year

Solution to the problem

A confidence interval is "a range of values that’s likely to include a population value with a certain degree of confidence. It is often expressed a % whereby a population means lies between an upper and lower interval".

The margin of error is the range of values below and above the sample statistic in a confidence interval.

Normal distribution, is a "probability distribution that is symmetric about the mean, showing that data near the mean are more frequent in occurrence than data far from the mean".

\bar X represent the sample mean for the sample

\mu population mean (variable of interest)

s represent the sample standard deviation

n represent the sample size

The confidence interval for the mean is given by the following formula:

\bar X \pm z_{\alpha/2}\frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}   (1)

The margin of error for this case is given by this formula:

ME= z_{\alpha/2}\frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}

For the first case the confidence was 68% so then \alpha =1-0.68 =0.32 and \alpha/2 =0.16 we can find a critical value on the normal standard distribution that accumulates 0.16 of the area on each tail and this value is z=\pm 0.994, because P(z<-0.944) = 0.16 and P(Z>.944) = 0.16

The margin of error can be expressed like this:

ME = z_{\alpha/2} SE

We can solve for the standard error on this case and we got:

SE = \frac{ME}{z_{\alpha/2}} =\frac{200}{0.994}=201.207

And then for the new confidence interval we need to calculate the new z_{\alpha}. For the first case the confidence was 95% so then \alpha =1-0.95 =0.05 and \alpha/2 =0.025 we can find a critical value on the normal standard distribution that accumulates 0.025 of the area on each tail and this value is z=\pm 1.96, because P(z<-1.96) = 0.025 and P(Z>1.96) = 0.025. So then the new margin of error would be:

ME = z_{\alpha/2} SE = 1.96*201.207=394.366

The estimation for the mean not changes and from the before and new case is 1000 years. So then the best option for this case would be:

B. 10000 years old, with a margin of error of 400 years

And makes sense since a larger confidence interval means a wider interval.

The scatter plot shows the profit by the month for a new company during its first year of operation. Which equation most closely
kondor19780726 [428]

The equation most closely models the line of best fit for the scatter plot is y = 2.5x

<h3>Equation of a line</h3>

A line is the distance between two points. The equation of a line in point-slope form is given as y =mx + b

  • m is the slope
  • b is the intercept

Using the coordinate points on the line (3, 5000) and (9, 20000)

Get the slope

Slope = 20000-5000/9-3
Slope = 15000/6 = 2500

Determine the y-intercept

5000 = 2500(3) + b

b = 5000 - 7500
b = -2500

Determine the equation

y = 2.5x - 2.5

Hence the equation most closely models the line of best fit for the scatter plot is y = 2.5x

The equation 12x² + 4kx + 3 = 0 has real and equal roots, if
sleet_krkn [62]

Answer:

k=\pm3

Step-by-step explanation:

[...] if you can write the LHS as a perfect square, or if you can't spot a factorization of it right away, if and only if the discriminant \Delta = b^2-4ac (or, if b is an even number, 1/4 of it) is zero.

<u>I see it! I see it!</u>

Stare at it for a while. First term is 3(2x)^2, third term is 3(1)^2, we are missing a double product, but we can play with k. For the LHS to be 3(2x\pm1)^2 = 3(4x^2\pm4x+1) = 12x^2\pm12x+3 you just need 4k= \pm12 \rightarrow k=\pm3.

<u>I don't see it...</u>

Then number crunching it is. Set the discriminant to 0, solve for k

\frac{\Delta}4 = 4k^2-12\cdot 3 =0 \rightarrow 4k^2=36 \\k^2 = 9 \rightarrow k=\pm3

Pls help<br>Solve 2/3x- 1/5&gt;1<br>
Juli2301 [7.4K]

Answer:

x > 9/5

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1: Write inequality

2/3x - 1/5 > 1

Step 2: Solve for <em>x</em>

  1. Add 1/5 to both sides: 2/3x > 6/5
  2. Divide both sides by 2/3: x > 9/5

Here we see that any <em>x</em> value greater than 9/5 will work.
