Just substitute the value of x from second equation into first equation:
N = x + y - n = 5
N = u + v  + y - n = 5
N = 0 + y - n = 5

In short, N would be equal to y - n which is still equal to 5

Hope this helps!

There were thirteen friends playing a video game online when six players quit.If each player left had eight lives how many lives
Lorico [155]
They had 56 lives in total

Explanation: if there were thirteen friends to begin with and six quit that would leave them with 7 friends. If those seven remaining friends each had 8 lives, you multiply those 7 friends by 8 lives which would get 56.

If all thirteen friends were still in the game then they would have 104 lives all together.

Using the combination formula, it is found that the number of ways to choose the presenters is given by:

C. 462.

The order in which the presents are chosen is not important, hence the <em>combination formula</em> is used to solve this question.

<h3>What is the combination formula?</h3>

C_{n,x} is the number of different combinations of x objects from a set of n elements, given by:

C_{n,x} = \frac{n!}{x!(n-x)!}

In this problem, 6 students are chosen from a set of 11, hence the number of ways is given by:

C_{11,6} = \frac{11!}{6!5!} = 462
