Answer: B: Control of the Mississippi river.

Explanation: They did not want control of it because if you do your research, it says that it was believed that the land west of the Mississippi river was useless and that is where they were making the Indians go, so if the land west of it was useless why would they want control of the river? Also I did the test and got it right.
