Given equilibrium partial pressures of PNO2= 0.247 atm, PNO = 0.0022atm, and PO2 = 0.0011 atm calculate the equilibrium constant

. Which direction does the reaction need to go to reattain equilibrium if the current reaction partial pressures are PNO2= 0.192 atm, PNO = 0.021 atm, and PO2 = 0.037 atm?

Answer 1:
Equilibrium constant (K) mathematically expressed as the ratio of the concentration of products to concentration of reactant. In case of gaseous system, partial pressure is used, instead to concentration.

In present case, following reaction is involved:

                        2NO2    ↔      2NO + O2

Here, K = \frac{[PNO]^2[O2]}{[PNO2]^2}

Given: At equilibrium, PNO2= 0.247 atm, PNO = 0.0022atm, and PO2 = 0.0011 atm

Hence,  K = \frac{[0.0022]^2[0.0011]}{[0.247]^2}
                 = 8.727 X 10^-8

Thus, equilibrium constant of reaction = 8.727 X 10^-8

Answer 2:
Given: PNO2= 0.192 atm, PNO = 0.021 atm, and PO2 = 0.037 atm.

Therefore, Reaction quotient = \frac{[PNO]^2[O2]}{[PNO2]^2}
                                              = \frac{[0.021]^2[0.037]}{[0.192]^2}
                                              = 4.426 X 10^-4.

Here, Reaction quotient > Equilibrium constant.

Hence, the reaction need to go to reverse direction to reattain equilibrium

calculate how many milliliters of 0.142 M NaOH are needed to completely neutralize 21.4 mL of 0.294 M H2C4H4O6.
Flura [38]

Answer:

The answer to your question is 88.7 ml

Explanation:

Data

Volume = ?

Concentration of NaOH = 0.142 M

Volume of H₂C₄H₄O₆ = 21.4 ml

Concentration of H₂C₄H₄O₆ = 0.294 M

Balanced chemical reaction

               2 NaOH + H₂C₄H₄O₆  ⇒  Na₂C₄H₄O₆  +  2H₂O

1.- Calculate the moles of H₂C₄H₄O₆

Molarity = moles/volume

Solve for moles

moles = Molarity x volume

Substitution

moles = 0.294 x 21.4/1000

Result

moles = 0.0063

2.- Use proportions to calculate the moles of NaOH

              2 moles of NaOH ------------------ 1 moles of H₂C₄H₄O₆

               x                           ------------------ 0.0063 moles

               x = (0.0063 x 2) / 1

               x = 0.0126 moles of NaOH

3.- Calculate the volume of NaOH

Molarity = moles / volume

Solve for volume

Volume = moles/Molarity

Substitution

Volume = 0.0126/0.142

Result

Volume = 0.088 L or 88.7 ml

If 725 ml of N² gas is at 1 atm, what volume will it have at 1.4 atm?
alexdok [17]

Answer:

518 mL

Explanation:

We can solve this using Boyle's Law Formula

P1V1 = P2V2

where p1 = initial pressure, p2 = final pressure, v1 = initial volume and v2 = final volume

here , the initial pressure is 1 atm and the initial volume is 725mL

we are given the final pressure 1.4 and we need to find the final volume

so we have p1v1 = p2v2

==> plug in p1 = 1 , v1 = 725 mL and p2 = 1.4

(1)(725) = (1.4)v2

==> multiply 1 and 725

725 = (1.4)(v2)

==> divide both sides by 1.4

v2 = 518

N2 would have a volume of 518mL at 1.4atm
