What changes might you expect to see in the earth's general circulation if the earth's rotation were in the opposite direction?

With the earth’s current rotation, the major pressure systems of the general circulation can be correlated with the increase and decrease of air. When there is a considerable amount of air, precipitation will become present on a large scale. When there is less air, then there is an increase in chances of an area becoming dry. According to our textbook, a decrease in air on the eastern margin (west coast) creates a subsidence inversion. This causes dry weather. On the western margin (east coast) the humidity in the air rises, condenses and creates rain fall. So if the earth were to rotate in the opposite direction, we could possibly expect weather on the west coast to produce more rain and the weather on the east coastto become dry.

What do we mean when we describe forces as balanced?
aivan3 [116]

Well, first, let's recognize that there is no such thing as a force that is
balanced or unbalanced.

When we say that a group of two or more forces is balanced, we mean
that when you add up all the magnitudes and directions of the forces, the
whole group adds up to zero, so they have the same net effect as if there
were no force at all.
