Answer:

Mass of Cl₂ = 17.25 g

Explanation:

Given data:

Moles of hydrochloric acid = 0.485 mol

Mass of chlorine gas = ?

Chemical equation:

4HCl + O₂ → 2Cl₂ + 2H₂O

Now we will compare the moles of Cl₂ with HCl .

                  HCl : Cl₂

                    4 : 2

                 0.485 : 2/4× 0.485 = 0.243 mol

Oxygen is present in excess that's why mass of chlorine produce depend upon the available amount of HCl.

Mass of Cl₂ :

Mass of Cl₂ = moles × molar mass

Mass of Cl₂ =0.243 mol × 71 g/mol

Mass of Cl₂ = 17.25 g

Nick needs 3.5 moles of sodium fluoride (NaF) for a solution he is mixing in the lab. How many grams of NaF does Nick need to me
Minchanka [31]

Answer:

147 g

Explanation:

The number of moles of a substance is the ratio of the mass of the substance and the molar mass of that substance. Mathematically,

mole = mass of substance/molar mass

In this case, Nick needs 3.5 moles of NaF, the molar mass of NaF is calculated as:

  23 + 19 = 42 g/mol (Note: Na = 23, F = 19)

Hence,

mass of 3.5 mole NaF = mole x molar mass

                              = 3.5 x 42 = 147 g.

Hence, Nick would need to measure out 147 g NaF using a suitable weighing balance.

How many moles of tin atoms are in a pure tin cup with a mass of 37.6 g ?
Georgia [21]
Tin is an element called Stannum and has the symbol Sn. Molar mass is the mass of 1 mol of a compound, 1 mol of any substance is made of 6.022 x 10²³ units, these units could be atoms making up an element or molecules making up a compound.
While the number of atoms making up 1 mol is the same for any element, the weight of 1 mol of substance varies from one another.
In tin(Sn) molar mass - 118.71 g/mol
In 118.71 g - there's 1 mol of tin
therefore in 37.6 g of tin - 1 x 37.6 / 118.71 = 0.31 mol
In 37.6 g of tin, there's 0.31 mol
