A block of mass m, initially held at rest on a frictionless ramp a vertical distance H above the floor, slides down the ramp and

onto a floor where friction causes it to stop a distance D from the bottom of the ramp. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the box and the floor is ?k.
What is the macroscopic work done on the block by all forces during this process?

Answer and Explanation:

Total  macroscopic workdone = Δ K.E

Where K.E = Kinetic Energy

Let V₁ = Initial speed of the block and

V₂ = Final speed of the block

Δ K.E = 1/2 MV₂² - 1/2 MV₁²

Δ K.E = 1/2M(V₂-V₁)²

Since the block was initially at rest, V₁ = 0

Since the block eventually stopped due to friction, V₂ = 0

Δ K.E = 1/2M * 0

Δ K.E = 0 Joules

N.B: The workdone by gravity is Mgh

Answer:

9.61 m

Explanation:

d1 = 8 m north

d2 = 1 m north west

d3 = 1 m vertically down

Write the displacements in vector form

\overrightarrow{d_{1}}=8\widehat{j}m

\overrightarrow{d_{2}}=1 \left ( -Cos45\widehat{i}+Sin45\widehat{j} \right )m

\overrightarrow{d_{2}}=\left ( -0.707\widehat{i}+0.707\widehat{j} \right )m

\overrightarrow{d_{3}}=-1\widehat{k}m

The resultant displacement is given by

\overrightarrow{d}=\overrightarrow{d_{1}}+ \overrightarrow{d_{2}} +\overrightarrow{d_{3}}

\overrightarrow{d}=-0.707\widehat{i}+ 8.707\widehat{j} - 4\widehat{k}m

The magnitude of displacement is given by

d =

\sqrt{\left ( -0.707 \right )^{2}+\left ( 8.707 \right )^{2}+\left ( -4 \right )^{2}}

d = 9.61 m

The amplitude of the wave on the given sinusoidal wave graph is 10 cm.

<h3>What is amplitude of wave?</h3>

The amplitude of a wave is the maximum displacement of a wave. This is the highest vertical position of the wave from the origin.

Amplitude of the wave is calculated as follows;

From the graph, the amplitude of the wave or maximum displacement of the wave is 10 cm.

Thus, the amplitude of the wave on the given sinusoidal wave graph is 10 cm.

Gold is the most ductile of all metals. For example, one gram of gold can be drawn into a wire 2.05 km long. The density of gold
arsen [322]

Answer:

Resistance of gold wire, R=1977 \times 10^3 ohm

Explanation:

In this question we have given

Density of gold, d=19.3\times 10^3 \frac{kg}{m^3}

resistivity of gold, r=2.44\times 10^{-8} ohm.m

Length of wire, L= 2.05 km

Temperature, T= 20^oC

We know that relation between volume and density is given as

Density= \frac{mass}{Volume}

Therefore, volume occupied by one gram gold is given as,

V=\frac{.001 kg}{19.3\times 10^3 Kg m^{-3}} = 5.181\times 10^{-8} m^3.........(1)

We Know that Volume of gold wire which is cylindrical in shape is given by following formula

V=\pi \times r^2 \times L......(2)

Here,

A= \pi \times r^2...........(3)

here A is the cross sectional area of cylendrical gold wire

From equation 2 and 3

we got

V=A \times L...............(4)

on comparing equation 1 and equation 4, we got,

A \times L=5.181\times 10^{-8} m^3

A=\frac{5.181\times 10^{-8} m^3}{2050 m}

A=2.53\times 10^{-11}m^2

we know that resistance and resistivity are related by following formula,

Resistance = resistivity\times \frac{L}{A}................(5)

Put values of resistivity, A and L in equation 5, we got

R = \frac{2.44 \times 10^{-8} ohm.m \times 2050 m}{2.53\times 10^{-11} m^2}

R=1977 \times 10^3 ohm

Therefore resistance of gold wire, R=1977 \times 10^3 ohm
