Two parallel paths 35 m apart run east-west through the woods. Brooke jogs east on one path at 9 km/h, while Jamail walks west o

n the other path at 4 km/h. If they pass each other at time t = 0, How far apart are they 5 seconds later? How fast is the distance between them changing at that moment?

Answer:

Explanation:

brooke speed, u = 9 km/h = 2.5 m/s

Jamail speed, v = 4 km/h = 1.11 m/s

Let Booke is at (0, 0) and Jamail is at 35 m. So, at time t, the position of Brooke is (2.5 t , 0 ) and Jamail is (- 1.11 t, 35)

Let l be the distance between them.

L=\sqrt{\left ( 2.5 t + 1.11 t \right )^{2}+35^{2}} = \sqrt{13.03t^{2}+1225}

Distance at t = 5 s

L = \sqrt{13.03\times 5\times 5+1225}

L = 39.38 m

Differentiate with respect to time

\frac{dL}{dt}=\frac{t}{\sqrt{13.03t^{2}+1225}}

Put t = 5 s

\frac{dL}{dt}=\frac{5}{\sqrt{13.03\times 5\times 5+1225}}

dL/dt = 0.127 m/s

Determine a submarines acceleration if it's initial velocity is 9.0 m/s and it travels 1.54 km in 2 min
julia-pushkina [17]
acceleration=\frac{\Delta v}{\Delta t}\\\\ \Delta t=2min=120s\\\\s=1,54km=1540m\\\\
acceleration=\frac{v_{f}-v_{i}}{\Delta t}\\\\
\Delta v=\frac{s}{t}\\
v_{f}-v_{i}=\frac{s}{t}\\
v_{f}=\frac{1540}{120}+9=21,83\frac{m}{s}\\\\
accleration=\frac{21,83-9}{120}=\frac{12,83}{120}=\boxed{0,107\frac{m}{s}}

What is the wave speed of a wave that has a frequency of 100 Hz and a wavelength of 0.30 m?
solong [7]
Speed=0.3*100=30m/s

speed=0.1*50=5m/s

frequency=20/0,5=40HZ

frequency=80/0.2=400HZ

frequency=120/0.4=300HZ

wavelength=340/440=0.77m

wavelength=340/880=0.39m

wavelength=250/400=0.63m

speed=2*50=100m/s

speed=0.5*100=50m/s
