While balancing equation, always ensure that both sides are of the same number of moles. This will certainly make the equation balance. According to the question, One mole of Al reacts with one mole of O2 to give Al2O3. If we should check the equation we can see that the number at both sides are not balanced. To balance this equation,we will have to consider each element from both sides. Here it goes

Al reacts to give Al2

If we should add 4 to the reactant Al, it will gives 4Al at the reactant side,4Al =Al2

Then we move to the O2 at the reactant side which gives O3 at the product side.if we add 3 to the O2 at the reactant side ,we have 3O2=O3

Let's combine everything together

4Al+3O2=Al2O3

To balance everything let's add 3to the Al2O3 at the product side to have 3Al2O3

To therefore,4Al +3O2=2Al2O3

And the mole ratio of Al to Al2O3 is 4:2...
