Solution of the Schrödinger wave equation for the hydrogen atom results in a set of functions (orbitals) that describe the behav

ior of the electron. Each function is characterized by 3 quantum numbers: n, l, and ml ... n is known as the quantum number. ... l is known as the quantum number. ... ml is known as the quantum number. ... n specifies l specifies ml specifies ... A.The orbital orientation. B.The energy and average distance from the nucleus. C.The subshell - orbital shape.

Answer :

'n' specifies  → (B) The energy and average distance from the nucleus.

'l' specifies   → (C) The subshell orbital shape.

'ml' specifies → (A) The orbital orientation.

Explanation :

Principle Quantum Numbers : It describes the size of the orbital. It is represented by n. n = 1,2,3,4....

Azimuthal Quantum Number : It describes the shape of the orbital. It is represented as 'l'. The value of l ranges from 0 to (n-1). For l = 0,1,2,3... the orbitals are s, p, d, f...

Magnetic Quantum Number : It describes the orientation of the orbitals. It is represented as m_l. The value of this quantum number ranges from (-l\text{ to }+l). When l = 2, the value of

Spin Quantum number : It describes the direction of electron spin. This is represented as m_s. The value of this is +\frac{1}{2} for upward spin and -\frac{1}{2} for downward spin.

As per question we conclude that,

'n' specifies  → The energy and average distance from the nucleus.

'l' specifies   → The subshell orbital shape.

'ml' specifies → The orbital orientation.

What is convection?
torisob [31]

In CONVECTION, heat energy is carried by the movement of particles of matter. In CONDUCTION, heat is transferred by particles vibrating. In RADIATION, heat is carried directly by electromagnetic waves. When a hot object touches a cool object, heat moves from the hot one to the cool one.

The answer is D Transfer of heat through the movement of particles.

55.99 mols of nickel carbonyl produces how many grams of nickels?
Alinara [238K]

Answer:

3286 grams

Explanation:

For every mol of Ni(CO)4 reactant, a mol of Ni is produced (55.99 mol). Multiply this by the molecular mass of Ni (58.69 g/mol) to give 3286 grams

Classify the reactions as endothermic or exothermic....PLEASE HELP ASAP
elena55 [62]

1) Endothermic reactions:

a) The reaction between ammonium nitrate and water absorbs heat from the surrounding environment.

There are two types of reaction: endothermic reaction (chemical reaction that absorbs more energy than it releases) and exothermic reaction (chemical reaction that releases more energy than it absorbs).

b) Ammonium chloride dissolved in a beaker of water makes the beaker cold.

Dissolving this salt absorbs heat from beaker.

c) Water separates on hydrogen and oxygen when an electric current is run through it.

Electrolysis of water is the decomposition reaction (heat is required), because from one molecule (water) two molecules (hydrogen and oxygen) are produced. Water is separated into two molecules.

2) Exothermic reactions:

a) Three drops of concetrated sulfuric acid added to 100 milliliters in a beaker makes the beaker hot.

Energy is released, beaker absorbs that heat.

b) Uranium atoms are split to produce nuclear energy.

Nuclear energy is released.

c) Methane and oxygen are combined to produce methanol and heat.

Balanced chemical reaction: 2CH₄ + O₂ → 2CH₃OH + heat.

Phosphorous would gain or lose electrons?
devlian [24]

Answer: the valence electron for phosphorus is 5. To achieve an octet electron arrangement, it needs to lose 5 electrons or gain 3 electrons. It is easier to gain 3 electrons than to lose 5 electrons. So phosphorus has to gain 3 electrons.
