Hitzu Co. sold a copier (that costs $5,500) for $11,000 cash with a two-year parts warranty to a customer on August 16 of Year 1

. Hitzu expects warranty costs to be 5% of dollar sales. It records warranty expense with an adjusting entry on December 31. On January 5 of Year 2, the copier requires on-site repairs that are completed the same day. The repairs cost $115 for materials taken from the repair parts inventory. These are the only repairs required in Year 2 for this copier.
Required:
1. How much warranty expense does the company report for this copier in Year 1?
2. How much is the estimated warranty liability for this copier as of December 31 of Year 1?
3. How much is the estimated warranty liability for this copier as of December 31 of Year 2?

Answer:

1) Warranty expense = $550

2) Warranty liability = $550

3) Warranty liability = $435

Explanation:

As per the data given in the question,

1.) Warranty expense = 5% of dollar sales

= 5% × $11,000

= $550

2.) On year end Dec-31st balance of liability will be same as expense incurred as there is no repair in year 1.

So, Estimated  Warranty liability = Warranty expense

Estimated  Warranty liability = $550

3.) Beginning balance = $550

Repair cost = $115

End balance of year = Beginning balance - Repair cost

= $550 - $115

warranty liability = $435

Larry Ellison starts a company that manufactures high-end custom leather bags. He hires two employees. Each employee only begins
Degger [83]

Answer:

12.55 days

Explanation:

<em><u>Provided information </u></em>

Number of employees 2

Average production time=1.8 days

Standard deviation=2.7 days

Inter-arrival time= 1 day

Coefficient of variation= 1 day

Standard deviation of inter-arrival time= 1 day

The coefficient of variations

<u>Inter-arrival coefficient of variation </u>

C_{vi}=\frac {\sigma}{T} where \sigma is standard deviation of inter-arrival time, T is inter-arrival time and C_v is coefficient of variation of inter-arrival time

C_{vi}=\frac {1 day}{1 day}=1

<u>Production time coefficient of variation </u>

C_{vp}=\frac {2.7}{1.8}=1.5

<u><em>Total utilization time </em></u>

U=\frac {T}{n*T_i} where T is the time of production, n is number of employees, U is utilization, T_i is inter-arrival time

U=\frac {1.8}{2*1}=0.9

Therefore, utilization time by 2 employees is 0.9

<u>Expected average waiting time </u>

T_e=(\frac {T}{n*T_i})*0.5(C_{vi}^{2}+C_{vp}^{2})*(\frac{U^{\sqrt{2(n+1)}-1}}{1-U})

Where T_e is expected average waiting time and the other symbols as already defined

Substituting 1.5 for C_{vp}, 1 for C_{vi}, 0.9 for U, 2 for n, 1 for T_iand 1.8 for T

T_e=(\frac {1.8}{2*1})*0.5(1^{2}+1.5^{2})*(\frac{0.9^{\sqrt{2(2+1)}-1}}{1-0.9})

T_e=0.9*1.625*8.583709=12.55367 days  and rounding off to 2 decimal places we obtain 12.55 days

Therefore, expected duration between order received and beginning of production is approximately 12.55 days

The Rogers Corporation has a gross profit of $746,000 and $305,000 in depreciation expense. The Evans Corporation also has $746,
allochka39001 [22]

Answer:

Net cash flow for The Rogers Corporation: $435,200

Net cash flow for The Evans Corporation: $332,400

Explanation:

For The Rogers Corporation:

Income before tax =  $746,000 - $305,000 - $224,000 = $217,000

Tax = $217,000 x 40% = $86,800

Net income afer tax = $217,000 - $86,800 = $130,200

Net cash flow = Gross profit - Selling and administrative expense - Tax = $746,000 - $224,000 - $86,800 = $435,200

For The Evans Corporation

Income before tax =  $746,000 - $48,000 - $224,000 = $474,000

Tax = $474,000 x 40% = $189,600

Net income afer tax = $474,000 - $189,600 = $284,400

Net cash flow = $746,000 - $224,000 - $189,600 = $332,400

Bruce has a credit card that uses the average daily balance method. For the first 9 days of one of his billing cycles, his balan
Mice21 [21]

Answer:

$31.61

Explanation:

In order to determine the amount of interest charged you must first calculate the average daily balance:

average daily balance = [($2,030 x 9) + ($1,450 x 22)] / 31 = $1,618.39

Now we must calculate the daily interest rate:

daily interest rate = 23% / 365 = 0.063%

Finally we multiply the average daily balance times the daily interest rate times the number of days in the billing period:

interest charged = $1,618.39 x 0.063% x 31 days = $31.61

Suppose that a firm’s marginal production costs are given by MC = 10 + 4Q. The firm’s production process generates a toxic waste
SCORPION-xisa [38]

Answer:

A) Marginal private cost= 50

B) Total Marginal social cost to society = 70

Explanation:

A) In order to find the marginal private cost we will use the firms production cost formula as it is the private cost that the firm is enduring and is only relevant to the firm's cost and not the society's cost.

In order to find the marginal unit cost of the 10th unit produced will will replace Q in the formula by 10 as it represents quantity.

MC= 10 + 4Q

MC= 10 + 4(10)

MC= 10 +40 = 50

B) In order to find the marginal cost to society we will add the marginal external cost of the 10th unit to its private cost. We already know the marginal private cost is 50 now we need to find the marginal external cost to it to find the total marginal cost.

Marginal external cost = 2Q

Q= 10

Marginal external cost = 2*10 =20

The total Marginal cost to society= 50 + 20= 70
