Hey there!

In this problem, we're looking for x's <em>relation</em> to y. We want to know what we multiply, divide, or do any other operation to on x to get y.

And that, is why we have algebra.

We take our x value, and we put a variable, z, after it. That allows us to solve for z and see what we are doing to x to get y.

Let's try one:

We have 2, and when it goes through our function, we get 16. We have:

2z = 16
z = 8

Next one:

3z = 24
z = 8

Finally:

4z = 32
z = 8

We see a common pattern. Y is just x multiplied by 8.

Therefore, your answer is B, y = 8x

Hope this helps!

The table of values represents an exponential function f(x).
Ostrovityanka [42]

Answer:

-3.98 (nearest hundredth)

Step-by-step explanation:

The average rate of change of function f(x) over the interval a ≤ x ≤ b is given by:

\dfrac{f(b)-f(a)}{b-a}

Given interval:  -2 ≤ x ≤ 2

\implies a = -2

\implies b = 2

\implies f(a) = f(-2)=16

\implies f(b) =f(2)= \dfrac{1}{16}

Substituting the values into the equation:

\begin{aligned}\implies \textsf{rate of change} & =\dfrac{\frac{1}{16}-16}{2-(-2)}\\\\ & = \dfrac{-\frac{255}{16}}{4}\\\\ & = -\dfrac{255}{64}\\\\ & = -3.98\: \sf (nearest\:hundredth)\end{aligned}

Suppose you drive a car 392 miles on one tank of gas. The tank holds 14 gallons of gas. (Assume the car travels the same distanc
RUDIKE [14]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Suppose you drive a car 392 miles on one tank of gas. The tank holds 14 gallons of gas. This means that

1 gallon of gas would be used to drive 392/14 = 28 miles

a) The number of miles traveled varies directly with the number of gallons of gas used.

Let x =number of gallons of gas you use.

Let y = the number of miles travelled.

Since y varies directly with x, we will introduce a constant of proportionality, k. Therefore,

y = kx

If 28 miles will require 1 gallon of gas, it means

28 = 1×k

k = 28

So y = 28x

b) we want to determine how far you can drive with 3.7 gallons of gas.

x = 3.7

y = 28x = 28×3.7

y = 103.6 miles

What is the surface area of a cube whose edges are 11 inches long?
Dennis_Churaev [7]
Surface area is the total area of the surface. A cube has 6 surface, and each surface is the same. Each surface is a 11 by 11 square. Therefore there will be 6 11in. x 11in. surfaces. The math would be 11x11x6 =726.
