Answer:

a. The first energy level has two, the second has eight, and the third has five.

Explanation:

In the periodic table , all of the elements are arranged according to the atomic number , the phosphorus is groups at position 15 and hence the atomic number is 15 .

The electrons of the elements are arranged according to the stability of the electrons , which is decided by the octet rule , where the stable electronic configuration is - 2 , 8 , 8 , 18...

i.e. ,

In the first shell maximum two electrons can reside , and in the second shell , maximum eight electrons can reside ,and so on.

Hence , determining the electron configuration as follows -

P ( 15 ) - 2 , 8 , 5 .

Calculate [H3O+] and [OH−] for each of the following solutions at 25 ∘C given the pH. pH= 8.74, pH= 11.38, pH= 2.81
Gnom [1K]

Answer:

Explanation:

Given parameters;

pH  = 8.74

pH = 11.38

pH = 2.81

Unknown:

concentration of hydrogen ion and hydroxyl ion for each solution = ?

Solution

The pH of any solution is a convenient scale for measuring the hydrogen ion concentration of any solution.

It is graduated from 1 to 14

      pH = -log[H₃O⁺]

      pOH = -log[OH⁻]

 pH + pOH = 14

Now let us solve;

   pH = 8.74

             since  pH = -log[H₃O⁺]

                           8.74 =  -log[H₃O⁺]

                           [H₃O⁺] = 10⁻^{8.74}

                             [H₃O⁺]  = 1.82 x 10⁻⁹mol dm³

       pH + pOH = 14

                 pOH = 14 - 8.74

                  pOH = 5.26

                  pOH = -log[OH⁻]

                     5.26  = -log[OH⁻]

                     [OH⁻] = 10^{-5.26}

                      [OH⁻] = 5.5 x 10⁻⁶mol dm³

2.  pH = 11.38

             since  pH = -log[H₃O⁺]

                           11.38 =  -log[H₃O⁺]

                           [H₃O⁺] = 10⁻^{11.38}

                             [H₃O⁺]  = 4.17 x 10⁻¹² mol dm³

           pH + pOH = 14

                 pOH = 14 - 11.38

                  pOH = 2.62

                  pOH = -log[OH⁻]

                     2.62  = -log[OH⁻]

                     [OH⁻] = 10^{-2.62}

                      [OH⁻] =2.4 x 10⁻³mol dm³

3. pH = 2.81

             since  pH = -log[H₃O⁺]

                           2.81 =  -log[H₃O⁺]

                           [H₃O⁺] = 10⁻^{2.81}

                             [H₃O⁺]  = 1.55 x 10⁻³ mol dm³

           pH + pOH = 14

                 pOH = 14 - 2.81

                  pOH = 11.19

                  pOH = -log[OH⁻]

                     11.19  = -log[OH⁻]

                     [OH⁻] = 10^{-11.19}

                      [OH⁻] =6.46 x 10⁻¹²mol dm³

Use the periodic table to answer the questions below.
Vera_Pavlovna [14]
The three of them have the same amount of electrons, so we can’t determine the right one on that ground. As you might know, Pauli said that electrons are always in the position of the lowest energy. So the first situation is impossible because there is a free place available that takes less energy. Then the 3rd situation is nor possible because if one electron has a different spin than the others, there is a magnetic obstruction that be prevented if the spin changes. This means that the second situation is the right one.

The barometric pressure measured outside an airplane at 3 km ( ft) was 524 mmHg. Calculate the pressure in kPa.
NeX [460]

Answer:

69.8609 KPa.

Explanation:

The following data were obtained from the question:

Pressure (in mmHg) = 524 mmHg.

Pressure (in KPa) =?

Thus we can obtain the pressure in KPa as follow:

760 mmHg = 101.325 Kpa

Therefore,

524 mmHg = 524 mmHg × 101.325 KPa / 760 mmHg

524 mmHg = 69.8609 KPa

Thus, 524 mmHg is equivalent to 69.8609 KPa.
