To factor out you have to think what multiples to AC and adds to B.

Ax^2+Bx+C

So... for this problem AxC=1x-24 or -24

B is -2.

So what two numbers multiply to -24: -3x8, -8x3, -4x6, -6x4, -2x12, -12x2.

Out of these, which adds to -2: -6+4=-2.

So the factors are (d-6)(d+4)

OR the longer way, which you really only use if A is not equal to 1.

Use the terms above and then rewrite the equation with two middle terms: d^2+4d-6d-24

Group the terms by using addition: (d^2+4d)+(6d-24)

Find what they have in common and factor it out. For the first, it's d. They both have d. So: d(d+4)
To check this, distribute the d. It should equal the first set lf parenthesis.

For the second, they have a number in common. 6 is a multiple of 24 so you can take that out: -6(d+4)

If the terms inside the parenthesis are the same, that's good. It means we can pair the insides and the outsides together to form the factors.

The two terms outside the parenthesis: d, -6 group together and become (d-6)

The inside terms stay the same: (d+4)

(d-6)(d+4)

Again, this is the longer way and no necessary for a problem like this. But if it was 2d^2, then this would be perfecf.

You decided to join a fantasy Baseball league and you think the best way to pick your players is to look at their Batting Averag
Vsevolod [243]

Answer:

The estimated value of the Batting Average is 0.229.

Step-by-step explanation:

In this case regression analysis is to performed to determine if there is a significant linear relationship for Batting Averages with Runs Score, Doubles, Triples, Home Runs and Strike Outs.

The independent and dependent variables are as follows:

<em>y</em> = Batting Averages

<em>x</em>₁ = Runs Score/Times at Bat

<em>x</em>₂ = Doubles/Times at Bat

<em>x</em>₃ = Triples/Times at Bat

<em>x</em>₄ = Home Runs/Times at Bat

<em>x</em>₅= Strike Outs/Times at Bat

The regression analysis can be performed in Excel.

Consider the regression output attached.

The regression equation is as follows:

y=0.183+0.447x_{1}+0.991x_{2}+0.622x_{3}+0.274x_{4}-0.285x_{5}

Now estimate the Batting Average when Run Score (<em>x</em>₁) = 0.123, Doubles ( <em>x</em>₂) = 0.040, Triples (<em>x</em>₃) = 0.0045 ,  Home Runs ( <em>x</em>₄) = 0.009 and Strike Outs (<em>x</em>₅) = 0.189 as follows:

y=0.183+0.447x_{1}+0.991x_{2}+0.622x_{3}+0.274x_{4}-0.285x_{5}

   =0.183+(0.447\cdot 0.123)+(0.991\cdot 0.040)+(0.622\cdot 0.0045)\\+(0.274\cdot 0.009)-(0.285\cdot 0.189)\\\\=0.229021\\\\\approx 0.229

Thus, the estimated value of the Batting Average is 0.229.

Janet solves this equation
mezya [45]

Of Janet’s two solutions, both x=5 and x=-2 are correct because both x=-2 and x=5 are extraneous solutions

<h3>Logarithmic function</h3>

Given the log function expressed as:

log(x-3) + logx=1

According to the law of logarithm, addition becomes product to have:

log x(x -3) = log₁₀10

x² - 3x = 10

x² - 3x -10 = 0
x² - 5x + 2x - 10 = 0
x(x-5) + 2(x-5) = 0
(x+2)(x-5)=0

x = -2 and 5

Of Janet’s two solutions, both x=5 and x=-2 are correct because both x=-2 and x=5 are extraneous solutions

Yoshi reported the total area of the five great lakes on the chart above.
Katarina [22]

Answer:

60000 square miles

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1: Great lakes beginning with consonant: Huron, Michigan, Superior

Great lakes beginning with vowel: Ontario, Erie

Step 2: Estimate the areas to nearest thousand.

Estimation of area of Huron = 23000 square miles

Estimation of area of Michigan = 22000 square miles

Estimation of area of Superior = 32000 square miles

Total area of Great lakes beginning with a consonant = 23000 + 22000 + 32000 = 77000 square miles

Estimation of area of Ontario = 7000 square miles

Estimation of area of Erie = 10000 square miles

Total area of Great lakes beginning with a vowel = 7000 + 10000 = 17000 square miles

Step 3: Difference between the total area of Great lakes beginning with a consonant and the vowel

77000 – 17000 = 60000 square miles
