Perimeter is the sum of all of the sides. Triangles have three, so the expression to use is 12x + 18/3, or 4x + 6.

Please help me with problem 2 of Inequalities in Two Variables
trapecia [35]

With inequalities,

< means less than

> means greater than.

Both are represented by a dotted line.

≤ means less than or equal

≥ means greater than or equal,

Both are represented by a solid line.

To construct the inequality x<2 we would switch the < to an equal sign, and construct the equality, namely x=2, which is a vertical line passing through (2,0).

From the previous comments, we know that x<2 is a dotted line.

Now we have to decide the inequality applies to which side of the line.

One way is to take some test points, e.g. the origin (0,0) where x=0.

Since x=0 is less than two, we know that (0,0) satisfies the inequality, so the area to the left of the vertical line (x=2) satisfies the inequality.

Hence the proper graph would show the left side shaded, but at x=2, the vertical line should be dotted.

An even simpler rule to find the region is to see that "x < something" is to the left, and "x > something" is to the right of a vertical or a slanted line.

Kirk has 12 dollars less than jim. If jim spends half of his money and kirk spends none,then kirk will have two dollars more tha
skelet666 [1.2K]

Answer:

Jim had $28

Kirk had $16

Step-by-step explanation:

Let

the amount of dollars Kirk has be "k"

and

the amount of dollars Jim has be "j"

Kirk has 12 dolalrs LESS THAN Jim, so we can write:

j = k + 12

Jim spends half & kirk spends none, so:

Jim has:

(k+12)(1/2) = (1/2)k + 12(1/2) = (1/2)k + 6

Kirk still has:

k

This will make Kirk's amount(k) be 2 dollar MORE THAN JIM'S AMOUNT (1/2k + 6). So we can write:

k = 2 + (1/2)k + 6

Now we can solve this for k:

k=2+\frac{1}{2}k+6\\k-\frac{1}{2}k=6+2\\\frac{1}{2}k=8\\k=16

And now, finding jim's amount:

j = k + 12

j = 16 + 12

j = 28

Initially,

Jim had $28

Kirk had $16
