Answer:

Calcium and Chlorine form ionic compound.

Explanation:

Ionic compounds are formed when there is a transfer of electrons from the metallic atom to the non-metallic atom. Ionic compounds can only be formed between a metal and a non metal.

Calcium is the metal and chlorine is the non-metal. Calcium will form ionic bond with chlorine by transferring two electrons to the chlorine atom to become calcium ion(Ca^2+) and the chlorine atom becomes chloride ion (Cl^-). This can be illustrated in the equation below

1. Ca —> Ca^2+ + 2e^-

2. Cl2 + 2e^- —> Cl2^-

Combining 1 and 2

Ca +Cl2 +2e^- —>Ca^2+ + Cl2^- + 2e^-

The electrons will cancel out, forming

Ca + Cl2 —> Ca^2+Cl2^- (ionic compounds)

An ionic compound is made up of two or more metals and non-metals
A covalent compound is made up of two or more non-metals.
Therefore calcium (non-metal) and chlorine(non-metal) make up a covalent compound

Which statement applies to electronegativity?
densk [106]

Answer: The correct answer is Option A.

Explanation:

Electronegativity is defined as the tendency of an atom to attract the shared pair of electrons towards itself whenever a bond is formed.

This property increases as we move from left to right across a period because the number of charge on the nucleus gets increased and electrons are attracted more towards the nucleus.

This property decreases as we move from top to bottom in a group because the electrons get add up in the new shells which make them further away from the nucleus.

Thus, the correct answer is Option A.

The density of water is 1.00 g/ml at 4°c. how many water molecules are present in 2.36 ml of water at this temperature?
spin [16.1K]

Mass of 1 ml of water 1 g as density of water 1.00 g/ml at 4° C. So, mass of 2.36 ml of water \frac{1}{2.36} g= 0.423 g.

Molecular mass of water is 18 g which indicates 18 g water contains 6.023 X 10^{23} number of water molecules. So, 0.423 g of water contains \frac{6.023 X 10^{23} X 0.423 }{18} g = 0.141 X 10^{23} number of water molecules= 1.41 X 10^{22} number of water molecules.

Which of these is not a precaution taken at nuclear power plants to ensure safety? Safety systems are built into them. All parts
irga5000 [103]

Answer: Enriched uranium is the fuel source.

The nuclear power plants utilizes the radiation energy from the fission of the heavy molecular weight atomic particles. These radiations can cause damage when exposed to the external air, they are capable of causing explosion, mutation in the living beings. Therefore, safety measures should be taken to prevent the damages.

Enriched uranium is the fuel source is not the precaution taken at the nuclear power plant to ensure safety because it is just explaining the fact that the uranium is the source of radiation. All other factors such as safety systems are built into them, all parts are kept in good repair and processes are carefully monitored are relevant precautions.
