Open system; can exchange both matter and energy; An example is a living organism such as human being, we actively interact with environment, which results in changes  to both the environment and human being, for instance we eat to acquire energy.
Closed system; can exchange energy but not matter; An example is a saucepan, t<span>he saucepan allows energy transfer as the saucepan heats up and heats the contents inside it, putting a lid on it, prevents matter from entering and becomes a closed system.</span>
Isolated system; Can exchange neither energy nor matter. For example is a thermos. if tea is poured into a thermos or an insulated container there is no exchange of heat or matter.
