A scientist mixes an unknown powder into a beaker of water. He then uses an indicator and finds that the pH of the resulting sol

ution is 8.5. What can he infer from this observation?
The unknown powder was acidic.
The unknown powder decreased the hydrogen ion concentration of the water.
The indicator used can measure only basic solutions.
The powder contains hydrogen ions.

A ph higher than 7 is basic so you can eliminate a. The indicator can be used to measure both acids and bases so you can eliminate c. Hydrogen ions are from acids, so the answer is that the powder decreased the hydrogen ions in the water.

Answer: Option (b) is the correct answer.

Explanation:

When we measure the pH of a solution then we get to know whether the given solution is acidic or basic in nature.

So, if pH of the solution is less than 7 then the solution is acidic in nature whereas when pH of the solution is more than 7 then the solution is basic in nature. And, when the pH of the solution is equals to 7 then the solution is neutral.

Hence, when pH of the given solution becomes 8.5 then it means the solution has become basic in nature as there occurs decrease in hydrogen ion concentration and increase in hydroxide ions concentration.

Thus, we can conclude that it can be inferred from the given information that the unknown powder decreased the hydrogen ion concentration of the water.

What do you know about velocity, acceleration and reference frame?
kozerog [31]

Answer:

The velocity of an object is the rate of change of its position with respect to a frame of reference, and is a function of time. Velocity is equivalent to a specification of an object's speed and direction of motion (e.g. 60 km/h to the north).

Acceleration, rate at which velocity changes with time, in terms of both speed and direction. A point or an object moving in a straight line is accelerated if it speeds up or slows down. ... Acceleration is defined as the change in the velocity vector in a time interval, divided by the time interval.

In physics and astronomy, a frame of reference consists of an abstract coordinate system whose origin, orientation, and scale are specified by a set of reference points ― geometric points whose position is identified both mathematically and physically.

Mariner 10 was the first to visit this planet in 1974. Which planet is this?
MissTica

Answer: Mercury

The Mariner 10 probe was launched by NASA on November 3rd, 1973, with the purpose of exploring the characteristics of two planets in the solar system that were closest to the Sun, Mercury and Venus.

In addition, it was launched to explore the atmosphere and surface of both planets and prove that it was possible to use gravitational assistance (also called slingshot effect, a special orbital maneuver in order to use the gravitational field energy of a planet or massive body to accelerate or slow the probe and change the direction of its trajectory) in long interplanetary trips to save fuel.

In this case, Mariner 10 first arrived at Venus and succeded in using its gravitational field to accelerate its trajectory towards Mercury.

Once a disk forms around a star, the process of planetary formation can begin. Rank the evolutionary stages for the formation of
PolarNik [594]

Answer: See explanation

Explanation:

The evolutionary stages for the formation of planets from earliest to latest will be:

1. Dust keeps matter inside the disk cool enough for planet formation to start

2. Dust grains form condensation nuclei on which surrounding atoms condense to form small clumps of matter.

3. Small clumps of matter stick together via the process of accretion to form planetesimals a few hundred kilometers in diameter.

4. Planetesimals begin to accrete, forming protoplanets.

5. A collection of a few planet-sized protoplanets remain in a fairly cleared out disk around the star

The unit for acceleration is always
Mazyrski [523]

Explanation:

Because acceleration is velocity in m/s divided by time in s, the SI units for acceleration are m/s2, meters per second squared or meters per second per second, which literally means by how many meters per second the velocity changes every second. ... The quicker you turn, the greater the acceleration.
