Definition: A rigid transformation (also called an isometry) is a transformation of the plane that preserves length.

Four types of isometries:

1. Translation -- sliding a shape from one spot to another on the xy-plane;

2. Reflection -- creating a mirror image of a shape by reflecting a shape over a line, called the axis of reflection, on the xy-plane;

3. Rotation -- rotating a shape around a point, called the center of rotation, on the xy-plane;

4. Glide reflection -- a composite transformation which is a translation followed by a reflection in line parallel to the direction of translation.

Translations, reflections, and rotations don't change the shape or size of the shape being transformed, so we can see that these three types of transformations are isometric, the glide reflection doesn't change the shape or size of the shape being transformed, but changes orientation.

A composition or sequence of isometries occurs when two or more transformations are combined to form a new transformation. In a composition, one transformation produces an image upon which the other transformation is then performed (as for the glide reflection). The composition of isometries is always the isometry (preserves lengths).

Factor the following polynomial:<br> 5x(a - b) – 2y(a - b)
Afina-wow [57]

Answer:

(a - b)(5x - 2y)

Step-by-step explanation:

5x(a - b) – 2y(a - b) =

The factors in parentheses (shown in bold) are a common factor.

Factor (a - b) out from both terms.

= (a - b)(5x - 2y)

A coordinate grid with 2 lines. The first line is labeled y equals negative StartFraction 7 over 4 EndFraction x plus StartFract
LekaFEV [45]

Answer:

Question 1. (2.2, -1.4)

Question 2. (1.33, 1)

Step-by-step explanation:

Equations for the given lines are

-----(1)

It is given that this line passes through two points (0, 2.5) and (2.2, 1.4).

------(2)

This equation passes through (0, -3) and (2.2, -1.4).

Now we have to find a common point through which these lines pass or solution of these equations.

From equations (1) and (2),

x =

x = 2.2

From equation (2),

y = -1.4

Therefore, solution of these equations is (2.2, -1.4).

Question 2.

The given equations are y = 1.5x - 1 and y = 1

From these equations,

1 = 1.5x - 1

1.5x = 2

x =

Therefore, the solution of the system of linear equations is (1.33, 1).

Bill and Eugene left the airport at the same time. They traveled in opposite directions. Eugene traveled 21.1 km/h faster than B
gizmo_the_mogwai [7]

Answer:

56.3 kilometers per hour

Step-by-step explanation:

We know D = RT

where

D is distance

R is rate (speed)

T is time

Let's Bill's rate be "x". Thus using equation we can write:

D = xt

We know Eugene travelled 21.1 faster than Bill, so Eugene's rate is 21.1 + x. So we can write:

D = (21.1 + x)t

D = 21.1t + xt

Now, putting t = 1 in both since after 1 hour given, we have:

D = x(1)

D = x

and

D = 21.1(1) + x(1)

D = 21.1 + x

We know the sum of both the distance is 133.7, so we can write:

x + 21.1 + x = 133.7

Solving for x:

2x = 133.7 - 21.1

2x = 112.6

x = 112.6 / 2

x = 56.3 km/hr

This is Bill's rate: 56.3 kilometers per hour
