The reaction pcl3(g)+cl2(g)←−→pcl5(g) has kp=0.0870 at 300 ∘c. a flask is charged with 0.50atmpcl3, 0.50atmcl2, and 0.20atmpcl5

at this temperature. part a use the reaction quotient to determine the direction the reaction must proceed in order to reach equilibrium.

The question only asks regarding the direction of the equilibrium reaction. The general expression of Kp is:

Kp = [PCl₅]/[PCl₃][Cl₂]

The higher the value of K (greater than 1), the more spontaneous the reaction (favors the product side). Otherwise, it favors the reactant side. Since Kp = 0.087 which is less than 1, the direction favors the forward reaction towards the product side.

Given, equilibrium constant  Kp = 0.0870

Pressure of PCl₃ = 0.50 atm

Pressure of Cl₂ =  0.50 atm

Pressure of PCl₅ = 0.20 atm

Reaction quotient, Q =  \frac{0.20 atm}{0.50 atm x 0.50 atm}

Q = 0.8

Q > K, net reaction is to the left

Q= K, no net reaction

Q < K, net reaction is to the right

<em>Q = 0.8  and Kp = 0.0870</em>

Q is greater than K, so the net reaction is to the left or to the reactant side.

Therefore, the reaction must proceed to the left or to the reactant side in order to reach equilibrium.

The sulfur dioxide (so2) stack-gas concentration from fossil-fuel combustion is 12 ppmv. determine the stack-gas so2 concentrati
sergejj [24]

The concentration of SO_{2} in the stack gas = 12 ppmv

That means 12 L of  SO_{2} is present per 10^{6} L gas

The given temperature is 273 K (0 C) and pressure is 1 atm. At these conditions, 1 mol of gas would occupy,

PV = nRT

(1 atm) (V) = (1 mol)(0.08206\frac{L.atm}{mol.K}) (273 K)

V = 22.4 L

1 mol SO_{2} occupies 22.4 L

Moles of SO_{2} = 12 L *\frac{1 mol}{22.4 L} = 0.5357 mol SO_{2}

Mass of  SO_{2} =0.5357 mol *\frac{64.06 g}{1 mol}  = 34.32 g SO_{2}  *\frac{10^{6} microgram}{1 g} =3.432 *10^{7}μg

Converting 10^{6} L to m^{3}:

10^{6} L *\frac{1 m^{3}}{1000 L} = 10^{3}   m^{3}

Calculating the concentration in μg/m^{3}:

\frac{3.432 * 10^{7} microgram}{10^{3} L}    = 3.432 * 10^{4}  microgram/m^{3}

write a paragraph to explain how the transformation of water from one state of matter to another is important for the water cycl
Westkost [7]

In order for us to have water to drink, it first needs to go through a process called the water cycle. And in that water cycle there’s a process called evaporation. Evaporation is the process by which water changes from a liquid to a gas. In order for it to rain we need clouds and clouds are made of water.  The water is heated  causing water molecules to convert into gas, that gas then goes through a process called condensation creating clouds. At some point those clouds will be full of water, and all that water will then cause the cloud to release the water molecules causing rain.
