Weight training has many beneficial effects on body composition.

It increases muscle mass which increases your metabolism, which makes you burn more calories during a day while doing nothing. Moreover, there are several documented and known health benefits such as increased mental performance a few hours after weight training, improved cardiovascular functioning, etc. 

Weight training is an excellent was of exercising.
