An object with a mass M = 250 g is on a plane inclined at 30º above the horizontal and is attached by a string to a mass m = 150

g. There is no friction and mass m hangs freely and is initially at rest. When mass m has descended a distance h = 10 cm, its speed will be?

Answer:

0.495 m/s

Explanation:

T = tension force in the string connecting the two objects

M = Mass of the object on inclined plane = 250 g = 0.250 kg

m = Mass of the hanging object = 150 g = 0.150 kg

a = acceleration of each object

From the force diagram, force equation for the motion of the object on the inclined plane is given as

T - Mg Sin30 = Ma\\T = Mg Sin30 + Ma

From the force diagram, force equation for the motion of the hanging object on the inclined plane is given as

mg - T = ma\\T = mg - ma

Using the above two equations

Mg Sin30 + Ma = mg - ma

(0.250)(9.8) Sin30 + (0.250) a = (0.150) (9.8) - (0.150)a

a = 0.6125 ms^{-2}

h = height dropped by the hanging object = 10 cm = 0.10 m

v = Speed gained by the object

Speed gained by the object can be given as

v = sqrt(2ah)\\v = sqrt(2(0.6125)(0.20))\\v = 0.495 ms^{-1}

The compound limestone (which is mined in Crossville) is chemically
Salsk061 [2.6K]

Answer:

True

Explanation:

Limestone is a carbonate chemical sedimentary rock often chemically called calcium carbonate.

The mineral calcium carbonate makes up the framework of this rock that has become the staple material used for cement production.

Chemically, the formula is given as CaCO₃. The rock accumulates from the a rich deposit of calcite, which is the mineral that is made up of calcium carbonate to form the limestone.

          CaCO₃         -        Calcite      -        Limestone

     compound                mineral                   rock

Limestone is a rock and the compound it is made up of is calcium carbonate. In some cases, a Ca-Mg carbonate occurs with limestone and it is called a dolomite.

A civil engineer wishes to redesign the curved roadway in the example What is the Maximum Speed of the Car? in such a way that a
vlabodo [156]

Answer:

24.3 degrees

Explanation:

A car traveling in circular motion at linear speed v = 12.8 m/s around a circle of radius r = 37 m is subjected to a centripetal acceleration:

a_c = \frac{v^2}{r} = \frac{12.8^2}{37} = 4.43 m/s^2

Let α be the banked angle, as α > 0, the outward centripetal acceleration vector is split into 2 components, 1 parallel and the other perpendicular to the road. The one that is parallel has a magnitude of 4.43cosα and is the one that would make the car slip.

Similarly, gravitational acceleration g is split into 2 component, one parallel and the other perpendicular to the road surface. The one that is parallel has a magnitude of gsinα and is the one that keeps the car from slipping outward.

So gsin\alpha = 4.43cos\alpha

\frac{sin\alpha}{cos\alpha} = \frac{4.43}{g} = \frac{4.43}{9.81} = 0.451

tan\alpha = 0.451

\alpha = tan^{-1}0.451 = 0.424 rad = 0.424*180/\pi \approx 24.3^0
